From the grantland NFL podcast

In the first two weeks the saints were near the top of the league in blitzes per snap and went 0-2

After the bye week the Saints dropped to the bottom of the league in blitzes per snap and won two out of three (should have been three in a row)

In the last two games the saints have jumped to fifth in the league in blitzes per snap and have lost two in a row

Coincidence?

Ryan can't help himself?

The only way I could get through watching the last game was to get myself blitzed.

You have to get after the QB one way or another. The front 4 isn't getting the job done. I always hear 'experts' classify Rob Ryan as a blitz happy DC but I think that's off base. He didn't blitz much at all last year but the front 4 was getting consistent pressure. He blitzes when he has to.

Makes me question the validity of these stats, Saints were 0-2 after 2 games.

Ryan can't help himself? You people were begging him to blitz at the beginning of this season!

What happened in the 3 weeks between the 0-2 start and the BYE week. Saints went 2-1 during that time, why are these figures left out?

Is it convenient reporting by the host of the podcast?

I would also think that blitzing has more to do with who we are playing? ATL had a bad O-line and was dealing w/ injuries, Hoyer was inexperienced; therefore, more blitzes.

Stafford, Rodgers & newton are typically not guys you want to blitz too much. Stafford takes chances w/ coverages, Rodgers is too good, and Newton is too elusive.

Not sure why we would blitz Kap, it's better to play coverage and containment against him. Dalton typically struggles against the blitz.

This seems like one of those stats like "Rob Ryan ate a cheeseburger before the first 2 games, and last 2 games. Coincidence?"

Fact is, besides the Bengals game, we were one play away from winning all of those games. I don't think the number of blitzes was the culprit.

Everyone knows that the only way that you beat the Niners is if you blitz late in a close game on 4th and 10

This theory proved to work flawlessly when GW was here
