I think you're right but you even admitted yourself that the experience of playing a game like SMB on a touch screen would be pretty bad. Nintendo knows this.

I wasn't referring to SMB, but games like Galaxy or Zelda. Full 3D games are more difficult to do. 2D Mario is a perfect fit imo.

A sidescroller? I think that would be terrible on mobile.

It is. You can, of course, try it with an emulator and it's not a fun experience.

I think the games I listed could work since they either don't require much precision or were designed with heavy touch elements already, since they were DS games.

Of course, there are plenty of controller add-ons for mobile devices to make awkward games more comfortable.

Although, I would never get something like this. Only if Nintendo/Sony pulled out of the market and it was also able to charge my phone.

What if you used a dedicated controller? That would be a way for Nintendo to still make money. Release Mario 1, 2, & 3 for iOS and android, but require that a controller be used and they could sell their own controllers. Actually, I'm pretty sure Apple requires games to be touch enabled, so never mind.

Problem is the install base for those controllers is small and last I saw rather expensive.

Most are around $50 which is about the same as the cost of a normal console controller. It's high, but only targeted at a small audience.

Prices must be down then, I remember when they launched at like $90. It's still an added cost though. With console you usually get a controller with the system. This is an add on most people wouldn't have.

Yes, but the 3DS launched at $250 (and is still over $150). That's already a high entry cost. The smartphone is a sunk cost.

Correct. This just cuts into that massive install base that mobile thrives on.

Lol.

You realize Nintendo is having one of the best marketing years in the history of their company right now don't you? Reggie Fils-Aime was jus interviewed by Forbes and he said basically they focus on what they need to do to better themselves instead of worrying about other companies. Thay they would take quality of quantity every single time. They just released Smash, Bayonetta, Mario Kart a while back, Hyrule Warriors (with DLC), and MANY more.

They are hardly in the same market so to speak as Sony and Microsoft anyway. Their IPs are what drives their company and they don't give a damn how much you cry over their games not being on mobile and what not. Buy a 3DS for god's sake.

That depends on the customer. A key demographic for Nintendo are younger gamers and mom & dad would much rather their little angel open a new 3DS on Christmas morning than mom's old iPhone 4 with a gamepad attached to it.

I agree that it's a shrinking market but Nintendo does't need to whore themselves out to the Apple or Android app store quite yet, especially when they are still content re-re-re-releasing old games on their own platform.
