In the fall of 2013, MLB experimented with expanded replay and the Rule 7.13 home plate-collision directive in the Fall League. This year it tried to indoctrinate top prospects in the art of baseball with a minimum of fidgeting, staring, batting-glove tugging, rosin-bag tossing and otherwise unproductive downtime.

Any rules changes will require a cooperative effort between the commissioner's office and the players' association. MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said the pace-of-game initiative is being discussed at the owners meetings in Kansas City this week and that there will be "ongoing internal and external conversations" between MLB and the union over the next couple of months.

• Hitters were required to keep one foot in the batter's box throughout each at-bat, except in the case of a foul ball, wild pitch, chin music that made a hitter sprawl out of the box, passed ball or a handful of other minor disruptions.

• The one-foot-in-the-box rule didn't apply at Salt River Field at Talking Stick, where the 20-second clock ensured that pitchers and hitters would tend to business as quickly as possible. When a pitcher allowed the clock to lapse, the umpire signaled ball. When the hitter was at fault, it resulted in a strike.

many of the rules listed aren't good

but may would work and have worked in the college level very well.

a 20 second pitch clock is a good idea. Just don't do it with guys on base.
a time limit between innings will speed it up as well.
telling a batter to keep one foot in may help to, but may not be necessary if there is a 20 second pitch clock.

it had a great impact on college baseball, game speed up, but it didn't change the nature of the game. Only if you think it's normal for a pitcher or a batter to take 40 seconds between pitches or something like that.

I hope the MLB does something minimal to speed up the game.

Pitch clock is already on the books. Just need to enforce it.

On average they're still shorter than an NFL game

The game itself is played at a perfect pace, it's the almost 2 hours of commercials that kill it.

Time between innings and pitching changes is the main culprit, IMO. They seem to get longer every season.

put a 90 second between inning clock that would save it.

MLB flat out sucks at branding and marketing. They should be mentioning that they are usually faster than the average football game all the damn time yet are happy to let the media act as if they are by far the longest.

Huge MLB fan here.

NFL has 16 games. MLB has 162. They need shorter games by a decent amount compared to the NFL.

I'm one of those weirdos who thinks baseball games do not need to be "sped up". I like them, for the most part, just the way they are.

The one thing that slows down the game times is pitching changes, but I really dont know what they could do to fix that.

And these "one foot in the batters box" and "20 second pitch clock" stuff- I would hope those wouldn t apply for the postseason.

I would hope they wouldn't need the rule at all.
