In the 111th Congress, the Dems under Obama had 60 votes (actual control) in the Senate for just 7 months, not two years.

Why do we even vote for Senators to represent us if the President can make laws without their approval?

NYT is going back to prisoners should be allowed to vote

Can you make a case as to why they should not be able to vote?

The good part is hopefully everyone will be document so that when congress does have the will to update immigration laws, we will be able to better determine the affects. (glass half full)
.

Like I asked earlier...how confident are we that people will "sign up"?

There are a number of illegals living and working within the united states. Many of them have children that were born here or born to a U.S. citizen. Thus, while the parent(s) are illegal, the child is not. Or, at a minimum, the child was granted status to be a legal resident and not face deportation

The president proposes to issue an Executive Order that grants those parents relief from the expectation of deportation, PROVIDED:

1) they have not committed (other) illegal acts

2) They agree to file papers to received work privileges, and pay taxes, etc.

the rumors have specifically excluded any right to getting citizenship. Only that they can "come out of the shadows" and remain employed in the U.S and with their children

Okay, I can live with that. Parents get reverse grandfathered in ( ) for the sake of their kids.

I find the no benefits claim hard to believe though.....

But all this means that it is a back door blanket amnesty if a major lockdown isn't even attempted, and a crackdown domestically.

You'll be able to tear it apart with the particulars, but as a generalization:

Prisoners by and large are those who have acted maliciously to harm others and are in the process of rehabilitation for a time proportional to the transgression.

During this time it makes sense that they lose a facet of the ability to make choices that can influence others. They have recently harmed others....why would you suppose they would even have as any consideration for the good of the community.

If they were born here, they should be allowed to return when they turn 18. Why is that not feasible? Don't automatically allow the parents to be rewarded for breaking the law. It only encourages more to come over. The only way I would possibly approve legalizing illegals is if they build a Berlin Wall type barrier.
