With only 10 minutes. It isn't going to be much. Blame obstructionist Republicans forcing the Osiah to act.

Sure. Where exactly was the Senate bill? No really, where was it?

Where was the immigration legislation when the Democrats had TOTAL control for 2 full years. Where was it?

Still don't understand how the lack of a law being provided gives any president the ability to do so without legislation. Even the furthest left leaning liberal cant be for this right?

Slow walking full citizenship for millions and millions of illegal immigrants for the sole purpose of creating an insurmountable voting bloc for the Democrat Party. They can't do it at once, so they are doing it in stages.

This is about nothing more than power for the Dem Party.

Anyone that says different is a damned liar.

There are a number of illegals living and working within the united states. Many of them have children that were born here or born to a U.S. citizen. Thus, while the parent(s) are illegal, the child is not. Or, at a minimum, the child was granted status to be a legal resident and not face deportation

The president proposes to issue an Executive Order that grants those parents relief from the expectation of deportation, PROVIDED:

1) they have not committed (other) illegal acts

2) They agree to file papers to received work privileges, and pay taxes, etc.

the rumors have specifically excluded any right to getting citizenship. Only that they can "come out of the shadows" and remain employed in the U.S and with their children

The PROBLEM is that there is very real concerns that this is outside of the powers that the POTUS has been given constitutionally. It is suggested that this is an illegal usurpation of the Congress' power and responsibility. In fact, President Obama said exactly that in an interview last year.

thus, the controversy.

Basically if you are illegally here and have a kid or if your kid is legally here, you don't have to leave. And this will basically create a huge burden on immigration officials. Probably only about 5 million people will qualify but millions more will claim this status with forgeries of documents that officials will never be able to fully vet. I'd say it's going to be extremely difficult to kick someone out if this is allowed to stand. The good part is hopefully everyone will be document so that when congress does have the will to update immigration laws, we will be able to better determine the affects. (glass half full)

He only said it 25 times so he didn't really mean it.

here's what I'm wondering: has our enlightened gov't, which is so good at projections, projected what percentage of eligible illegals will "come out of the shadows"?

Maybe a lot won't. I know the threat of deportation keeps many from sticking their necks out too far, but this is not going to be a permanent act (in political terms it may be, though).

Good question(s) and a reason I am AGAINST the EO.

These things SHOULD take a long, deliberative, even angry time in coming to a conclusion.

Making this big of a change SHOULD NOT be pretty.

I just think it should happen through the legislative course. And, IF that does NOT happen (meaning no resolution makes it out) then THAT in and of itself is a decision.

Sometimes "make no decision" is the decision

Once these people are "out of the shadows" and working on the books, then we will be told it is unfair that these millions of people are paying taxes but not allowed to have a say in the electoral process.

.....and there are your millions and millions of voters created from scratch voting 70%-80% Dem.

That's the plan.

Plan B will begin after plan A (election) was a flop.

Plan B is to stick it to the Republican party.

More an imperial decree than a speech. But probably a little bit of both.

Well, they'll get added to SS by the first activist judge that gets a shot at it.
