What was the biggest reason for the resurgence of the defense this year?

They looked so awful at the beginning of the year against Moo State and Auburn and have returned to that elite level of previous LSU defenses.

What are the biggest reasons? I am still amazed at such a quick turnaround. Was the defensive transformation solely due to benching Welter for Beckwith?

We were young and need game reps to get it going, along with getting DJ out.

Beckwith and I think the dlinemen were challenged to step it up...and they rose to the challenge

Welter being replaced and people just adjusting to the speed of the game.

I think Chavis may have simplified some of the scheme in order to speed up the development for a few people.

time of possession by the offense has had a lot to do with it

Lots of practice, a few tweaks here and there, gap discipline improved, insert Beckwith and they learned how to play as a UNIT.

I think Godchaux is going to be an all-American before his time is up at LSU. For a true freshman he's been solid. He will only get better.

Young players gaining much needed game experience, inserting Godchaux, and Welter go bye-bye.

Biggest reason.

Same thing happened with the o-line.

It's amazing what happens when a group works as one.

it's crazy really. as soon as 31 comes onto the field the opposing offense starts aiming plays right to him and picking up chunks of yards.

wonder why

We know you love Miles, man
Usually young players get better with experience (QB being an exception). The DTs have gotten better, and Beckwith has stabilized the middle of the defense. Now, he still gets fooled some in the passing game, but his run support is top notch.

According to the Rant, it damn sure wasn't coaching. Right?
