Living Wage Calculator - thoughts?

MIT put together a living wage calculator a while back so I was curious to see what type of numbers it comes up with.
It narrows it down to the county/parish level.
For EBR Parish the living wage it calculates for a single adult is $9.57 an hour.
The calculation is based on working 2080 hours a year (or a full 40 hour week for all 52 years for the mathematically challenged)

Link above if anyone is interested.
So that being said, would you have a problem with the state of Louisiana raising the minimum wage to say 10 dollars an hour?

Yes.. I employ over 30 people.. Most are part time who don't need a " living wage" they all make above the current minimum but starting at 10 an hour would raise my payroll across the board..something would have to give along the way.

Not every job is meant to be a "living wage".
Some employees are part-time high school students. Some others have another spouse who works. If one spouse is making say...$20/hr., does the other still need a "living wage" for their work if the position is not one that warrants such pay?

No. I think I have a problem with the notion that one must be able to make a "living" off of every single job available. I had several jobs in my life that I could not make a "living" off of that were valuable for any other number of reasons, and I'd hate to deny others such opportunities.

I think you are serious here.
I am not a resident of LA, so I don't really have an opinion on the matter.
What I do know is where I live (denver) has very few min wage jobs. Even fast food offers $9-10/hr.

Do you think every job is worthy of a living wage?

Wages should not be determined by cost of living. Wages are determined by the value of work.

Any min wage increases should be incremental and small.

Living Wage Calculator - thoughts?
(1) The term "Living Wage" is bullshite.
(2) A $10 Minimum Wage will reduce jobs and increase cost of goods produced by minimum wage workers.
(3) The GOP should pass it immediately. Would impact GOP constituents minimally.
(4) A $10 Minimum Wage, while likely hurting Democrat constituents, would be passed by GOP under guise of helping them.
(5) Would clear the way for serious discussions re: employment, especially when a bunch of low wage Democrat voters lost their jobs.

You are wrong on this one.

I wonder where they got their "typical wages" data. I make 25% more than the highest listed amount for my area, and I'm not in what I assume they consider "management."
Seems like they are lowballing.

Stage three
"You can't keep us chained with this rate for much longer".

I would be opposed to it. I believe that all people should be free to sell their labor at any price they want to.

I see minimum wage as a trailblazer to open the road to other more fiscally important issues.
