Has the college football playoff taken all Heisman debate out of the season?

Sure it's been talked about a bit, but nothing like it used to be. The Heisman race would dominate college football discussion during the week. This season it's basically on the back burner and it's playoff nearly 100% of the time. Which is actually nice.

Let me know when they give it to a lineman.

The Heisman? Don't you mean the Davey O'Brien Award?

I wish Reggie had told the Heisman committee to shove it.

At this point its a 3 man race according to the odds.

#1 Mariota
#2 Gordon
#3 Barett

JT Barrett and Marcus Mariota both lead the nation in total touchdowns (38) and are #1 and #2 in QBR.

Barrett is heading towards 3000 passing yards and 1000 rushing yards with maybe 45+ total touchdowns to finish the season. I could see him and Mariota finishing with similar stats and maybe the only distinguishing factor is the "heisman moment" and that Mariota has less turnovers.

I think Gordon is the best and should win it but most likely it will go to one of the 2 QBs

Assuming Wisconsin takes care of business these next two games, they'll play a third in Indianapolis against Ohio State. He would be on pace for nearly 2,500 yards and 33 total touchdowns. This would be incredible given who his quarterback and wide receivers are.

Everyone knows where the ball is going in Wisconsin's offense and the guy has put up video game numbers.

It would be a damn shame if this played out and he didn't receive the Heisman. I'm not getting my hopes too high, though. This has become a straight quarterback award.

it's become a best exciting player on a top team award... Prescott still fits in the discussion and if they beat Ole Miss, he'll have his Heisman moment on a playoff team

Nobody really cares much about it. At least that is my sense.

Well LSU has only had one winner in 1959 so that's not that surprising.

It definitely has less hype this year. I don't know if it's because there's no player out there right now that feels Heisman like or if it's because of the playoff though.

Definitely the playoff. That has dominated all discussion in the CFB world.

Of course, three of the last four Heisman winners haven't been without controversy surrounding them during their Heisman run. The contenders this season (Mariota, Gordon, Barrett, Boykin, Prescott) have not had much, if any, controversy surrounding them during their run for the trophy.

This has been happening for a while. The heisman used to have prestige to it but not it's almost a formality.
