in California, per the Los Angeles Times today.

quote:

Bolstering a chief complaint about Obamacare coverage, California regulators said two major health insurers violated state law by overstating the number of doctors available to patients..

More than 25% of physicians listed by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California weren't taking Covered California patients or were no longer at the location listed by the companies, according to state reports released Tuesday.

In some cases, these errors led to big unforeseen medical bills when patients unwittingly ventured to out-of-network doctors for medical tests or a surgery.

The results of the five-month investigation come at a critical juncture as the second year of health law enrollment gets underway and more than 1.2 million Californians are shopping in the state's insurance exchange.

“We found the provider directories made available to the public had significant errors. When you have a quarter or more of physicians that aren't available, that is significant.”
- Shelley Rouillard, director of the California Department of Managed Health Care

"We found the provider directories made available to the public had significant errors," said Shelley Rouillard, director of the California Department of Managed Health Care. "When you have a quarter or more of physicians that aren't available, that is significant."

this has happened to me and sucked.

Just recently my wife called up a place in our listing of providers and it turned out they don't accept our insurance despite being listed. Annoying as all frick. Luckily she asked as we got screwed on this in 2010 or so.

Dude. Haven't you heard? It's totally cool to lie if it delivers what good for the surfs that are too stupid to understand what's good for them.

The government in California has very strict rules about provider directories. While this audit may be political they are one of the few states that make every effort to hold insurance companies' feet to the fire. And this issue is a larger issue that goes beyond the ACA.

They weren't warned often enough or loudly enough IMO. I blame the sycophantic media for that.

The Grubering is getting out of hand with this.

Why can't we just throw it out and start over again, because it was all based on lies?

A Mulligan - BHO ought to be familiar with that concept.

That's the big problem with our system. I mean, who has time to figure out if this doc or that doc is part of my plan.

Another reason we need single payer.

Single payer and single player! Erbody right in one spot. Easy peasey.
