Why did we place Cooks on IR, when his timetable is 4-6 weeks which would possibly put him coming back for the last 2 games or at least the playoffs if we were to make it. just curious maybe you guys can help me out

I am not the best one to answer, but does placing a player on IR allows a team the ability to spend a little more with the cap.? I believe..? which sometimes may be more beneficial for the team currently going forward.. they have to miss a certain amount of time to qualify for this?
I truly don't understand all there is to the IR.. or how serious his broken thumb is.. but I hope he heals quickly and has a wonderful recovery.

Probably because the 4-6 weeks is an estimate that was provided prior to the actual surgery. He was placed on IR after he had surgery, so it was either worse than expected or the surgery did not go as well as expected.
The other factor that could have played into this was when Colston had the same exact injury a few years ago. He wasn't the same when he returned because even though he could play, the thumb was obviously still botching him.

I think it also had something to do with us needing the roster spot. With him on IR, we can now sign someone else on the 53 man roster.

Probably cause his timeline is going to be 6 weeks plus after the surgery was done, as well as roster is getting thin and we need to spot. need to just IR him and let him go be.

all the salary cap reasons, plus that kid has been great this season. no need to take any risks with his recovery.

could we have used that relatively new thing where you can return from IR? is there a cap on how many times it can be used?

Can only be used once a year and we already used it.

He wouldn't be in football shape though.
