Why not get the 3000? Same reel with a little more capacity? I think the handle may be different too.

3000 size, all day, every day.

It's the same size as the 2500, same price and the spool can hold more line...
No brainier.

OP: shimano Sahara or symetre with a Cabelas tourney trail rod (if it breaks, just bring it to Cabelas for a replacement)

Why do you need more line capacity?? I'd prefer the smaller 2500

Not sure about you but the only time line capacity came into play for me was getting into a school of Jacks in Venice when I was fishing with mono. If he uses braid, crank down on the drag and line capacity doesn't matter...and unless he is catching Jacks with a 2500, he won't need to worry about it

I get the 4000 model mainly because I don't like changing my line that often.

I used to use nothing but Symetre 1500 spinning reels, moved to baitcasters. I still have the spinners for guests, they held up but needed work due to the abuse I put them thru. Something similar on a 7" Falcon Original and you can bring in most fish you'll hook. Know nothing about fresh, so dragging a bass thru lilies with 900# test is Greek to me.

You must not like the fight of the catch

Why not get it? There's lots of stuff out in the bay's that can spool you, especially late summer. There's no price difference, why not have the little extra?

But you're right, either one is more than you need for 99% of what you're going to hook into.

A 25lb bull red or black drum will spool a 2500 pretty fast if you don't hammer down on the drag

So. you drag a 20" speck over the top and throw it in the box? Guess you shoot SLA deer with a 8mm Mag too. I kind of like some sport.

say what? I'm saying that the only advantage a larger reel would have would be that its easier to land a bigger fish. I caught some monster reds on a 2500 that would have been spooled if I didn't have braided line.

no clue what this means

And the 2500 and the 3000 are the exact same frame. You couldn't tell the difference betweent the two by holding them.

My point was there is no need to use overkill gear if you are a true fisher or hunter IMO, if you disagree so be it.

Bwahahahaha. That's some good stuff right there.

Eta: If you'd like to give me the maximum sizes for all species of fish and game, I'd appreciate it. And if you could pass the word on to the school trout not to bite on my big rod, I'd sure appreciate that.

yeah, usually on 20 lb braid

you don't have any problems fishing with them with a baitcaster?
