SIAP, but came across this doing my morning reading... Did a quick search and nothing came up over here.

quote:

President Obama met with Ferguson protest leaders on November 5th, the day after the midterm elections. The meeting was not on his daily schedule. He was concerned that the protesters “stay on course.”

What does that mean?

And why is the president meeting with the violent Mike Brown protesters before a verdict is reached in the court case?

Some reporter might ask about this, to which Josh Earnest will say the President does not comment on ongoing legal cases. Rinse. Repeat.

Yeah, I'm sure he met with the violent ones.

I guarantee that the FBI has a few agents stashed in a couple of those groups.

Why is he meeting with them at all? Just furthers the narrative he is concerned with race hustling and not due process.

Maybe they do, which makes it all the more puzzling the president feels the need to get involved.

Why in secret? Did he meet with the small business owners who had their shite destroyed?

You think it is a good idea for the president to meet with violent protestors to make sure they stay the course?

i just don't get

1. why people are protesting (assuming this goes to a grand jury and the GJ doesn't indict)

and

2. what are the desired effects of protesting?

#2 is the real question, and it applies on a broader scale. occupy did nothing positive. the tea party protests did nothing positive

protesting is stupid and just accomplishes nothing. it's a vestigial reaction for reactionaries born from the terrible 60s/70s

note: i'm not saying it should be illegal or anything. i'm just saying it's stupid and a waste of resources. you want to know how the "tea party" did something that affected the political system? they turned out to vote in the 2010 midterms and got a bunch of their guys/girls elected

How can these people afford to protest for 6 months straight? Are they Union workers or do they have some money source that I have never heard of...

It's the same reason Obama met with them. They're community organizers.

Or maybe he's meeting with them to try to stave off riots? Police, local, and state officials regularly meet with protesters in advance of big events. This one has reached national and international levels of attention, so maybe he felt it deserved a little extra pressure.

Sorry that doesn't fit your narrative.

You're grasping to fit your narrative

You're probably right.

Maybe he and Holder should have called for calm in the beginning instead of automatically assuming the Cop was in the wrong.

So if they riot, we can mark that down as another Obama failure.

then that makes meeting them in secret worse. one of the biggest failures of Obama as the president is his unwillingness to do things like that publicly. he's gone in the opposite way. the first major example was commenting about "his son" trayvon while that was going on, throwing chum in the water instead of trying to decrease emotions about the situation.

trying to rally peaceful protesting and criticizing negative protesting seems like it should be public, not private

Neither he or Holder will ever criticize "their people" publicly.

As long as you would give him credit for the victory, I guess.
