Is transferring money from one account to another a smart investment strategy? I currently have about $10k in VFINX and I am thinking about moving it to VGSLX (Vanguard REIT Index Fund Admiral) but not sure if it's the right investment strategy or not. The returns on the VGSLX have been better than the VFINX and i'm quite bullish on REITs. I am maxing out my ROTHs / year and will also be contributing to a ROTH for my wife starting in 2015.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't understand your question.

is not the same as

thinking about moving it to VGSLX

Moving money from one account to another has absolutely nothing to do with moving money from one fund to another.

And nobody can reliably tell you which fund will do better than another one anyway.

When I said transfering money from one account to another I mean take the money that I currently have in VFINX and transfer it over to a VGSLX. I'm sure there's a name for it, but I dont know what it is.

I'm not looking for advice on which fund will do better, just if it's a smart strategy to move money from one fund to another or is it better to leave the money in one fund.

That's just changing funds a lot simpler

Well that's the basis for moving it right? Why else would you do so?

If the fund you switch to does better than the other fund, it's a smart strategy. If it doesn't, it's a bad strategy.
