I'm sure it will take a few more days, but Daily Kos, Slate, etc are working over time right now.

No matter what those talking points are, "stupid American voters" will still believe them.....because they ARE "stupid American voters".

I think all they can do is try to distance themselves from him. The are trying the same tactic of lying to their supports and hoping that the "stupid" ones continue to believe the lies...

One that I've heard is that he really wasn't the architect he is portrayed as. So the question is who was, what was Gruber's role, and are the points he is making still the truth about was going on behind the scenes of those that did craft the bill.

They've already tried a couple that didn't take.

They don't know who he is...he wasn't a major party writing the law, etc.

They'll find one that gains at least a minimum of traction and they'll stick with it.

He spent 4 hours with Obama discussing the bill in the west wing. Hard to say the guy was a nobody...

The New York Times' take today was that "all administrations do this. It's how legislation is done."

Nudge and a wink.

The talking points are that everyone knew it was a lie. Everyone was in on the lie. Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more, say no more.

Hard to jibe that with Gruber's statements. He didn't think everyone was in on the joke. He just thought the electorate was dumber than a bag of hammers.

NYT:
quote:

It looks like a shocking instance of a onetime Obama adviser saying that the administration pulled the wool over America’s eyes in advancing major legislation. That is certainly how many conservatives are interpreting it after a video of the remarks started circulating this week.

But here’s the dirty little secret: Mr. Gruber was exposing something sordid yet completely commonplace about how Congress makes policy of all types: Legislators frequently game policy to fit the sometimes arbitrary conventions by which the Congressional Budget Office evaluates laws and the public debates them.
See? Happens all the time. Stupid conservatives. What's the big deal?

They're pushing the following:

1. He didn't draft the law

2. He's a political idiot/nincompoop

3. He worked with Romney first

4. The law was debated and all of this was discussed for months.

5. We're better off with the law, so the ends justify the means.

I don't see them going much further and none of these should stick. It's bad for the Dems - worse than Benghazi, spying on reporters, F&F and the IRS, for sure.

They will do what they do best...kill the messenger and his credibility instead of the message.

Hard to argue with that. I'm just glad so many of them stayed home a week or so ago...

You've already seen it ....

quote:

He's in no way, shape or form the "architect" of Obamacare. He's strictly a bit-part player even though conservatives are trying real hard to blow up his role in the whole thing.

After five minutes -- the time it took anyone with an IQ above single digits to stop laughing -- the libs realized that they'd have to come up with something else not so quite retarded.

This would be a great ad for cassidy. Landrieu voted for this and thinks that we are not only racist but very very stupid. One final nail in her coffin?

I think the left is frustrated and exhausted - they're frustrated because the sheeple won't blindly trust them anymore and exhausted from having to defend their tyrannical and anti-democratic policies.

Republicans (for all their faults) run proudly on their ideals, platform, values (and then fail to live up to them, IMHO) - Democrats on the other hand would be largely unelectable if they ran on exactly the policies they intended to pursue - they know this and intentionally lie, mislead, trick, bait and switch, etc.

Obamacare may be a gift in that respect, as Americans cannot pretend that the Dems will be remotely truthful about the intent or effect of their policies. They expect something to gain ground (i.e. Social Security) then become irreversible, despite how big, bloated, inefficient, expansive and expensive it gets.

They would do the same with guns, energy, food, just the entire range of activities they want to control "for our own good" - all the while denying it, "We don't want to take anyone's guns", "We don't want to tell people what to eat", etc., when that's exactly what they want to do.

The problem for them is that new videos keep popping up. Can't set up your defense until you know you don't have to respond to anything else. You run the risk of sticking your neck in the noose.
