That's better than the 10/300 that floated the other day, but damn.

How much guaranteed?

It's tough to have a superstar.
Two choices a)pay 'em or b) trade 'em for less than they're worth (because no one will pay what he's worth in terms of prospects or major leaguers).

I admit I don't follow MLB much let alone the contracts.

I'm assuming all MLB contracts are guaranteed?

It makes this kind of thing even more insane.

What's the last long term deal that actually went well for the club?

I don't even understand why someone like Jameis Winston would even focus on football when he could easily crack into the MLB as either a pitcher or even a utility guy.

Isn't his arm considered MLB potential?

This was my Dad's idea, too. "You get paid just as much, son, and you only work every four days".

There was some lack of talent involved, however.

To be fair, most of the guys weren't signed to those long deals when they were 25. But yeah, long term, big money deals almost always go badly.

Outside of that one season, their payroll has averaged out at under 50 million the last 10 years.

Another team buying Into the late 30's, but it is the cost of doing business.

I just hope Stanton can play at a $30-40mm level for the next seven years.

Out of all teams offering $300 million to one player, I'm completely shocked that it's the Marlins.

Not according to someone in the "why are mlb players payed so much" thread! 13 years is WAY too long IMO. If you give a guy 325 million guaranteed and have them locked up until they are 38 what incentive do they have to perform at their highest level? Its just a BAD idea IMO and they would have been better off giving him 7 years 200 million and Stanton would also probably end up better off as well.
