Might be their best song, although I really like to space out to Cowboy Dan.

a run of songs of Bury Me with It, Dance Hall, and Bukowski. That stands up with any trip of songs on any of their albums.
We are in agreement with this.

If we are talking about favorite songs I'll nominate "Other people's lives"

The perfect union of punk and melody...
which is what this band is all about for me

I've heard they aren't that good live anymore

False. It may depend on the night. I don't know. I saw them at HOB for the first time in 2007 and the sound was awful. I've seen them 5 or 6 times sense then and they sounded great.

I last saw them 2 years ago and it was a really good show. Played lots of classics.

I never get why people think they "sold out" with Good News. There is 1 song on that album that was a huge hit and put them on the map, but honestly, I'd consider Moon and Antarctica a much more accessible album than Good News. Yet many people consider that their "Masterpiece."

I wasn't there, but their show at Fun Fun Fun Fest last week got some good reviews.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous to just label them a Pavement re-do.

And their sound isn't original, its a pavement rip off. I really enjoy modest mouse but its a pavement redo.

Not really.

You find much bigger Pavement fans than me, but I don't see them as a comp to Modest Mouse at all. I think Spoon is more of a Pavement redo than anyone. I mean, i don't really think of Modest Mouse as a lo fi band.

As others have said that Pavement rip-off comment was total bullshite. Pixies and Built to Spill are bigger influences anyway.

Maybe my favorite band ever. Top 5 for sure. Love all their work, but Moon and Antartica and Lonesome Crowded West are my favorties.

I'd call them a more commercially successful Archers of Loaf. I'm always backing the wrong horse, it seems.

Oh i do, especially the first two albums. There newer stuff is much bigger sounding.

Hell, when I first put on this is a long drive with nothing to talk about my friends thought it was a new pavement album. Now this was before they were big but the guitars sounds very similar and the absurdity of the songs.

Well, I definitely hear the pixies in modest mouse, and certainly a little built to spill.

I am sticking with my pavement comparison. maybe total rip off was hyperbole. But they sound a lot a like.

And I know that I am not alone in this
Last.fm agrees. rating them highly similar although it says Animal collective is highly similar so maybe I am just high.

I do really love pavement, built to spill, spoon and modest mouse. Modest mouse is probably my least favorite of those 4, but I still have all of their albums and listen to them pretty regularly.
