What is the boards thoughts on this band?
A great band with a unique sound. One of my favorites of the 2000's.
Fans, what is your favorite album?
Tough for me, but I have to go Antarctica and the Moon.
Anyone seen them live? How was it?
I've heard they put on a great show but have yet to see a show of theirs.

The live show is dissapointing. Its almost like attending a punk tock concert. The albums sound 10x better.

I share this sentiment about Deftones.

I'm a big Modest Mouse fan...I saw them play in a gym at a Shriners Hall in Billings, MT in High School and it was actually pretty good. I've heard they aren't that good live anymore...as for albums "Antarctica and the Moon" is good, I just really love "Lonesome Crowded West"

this is a long drive with nothing to talk about is my favorite.
And their sound isn't original, its a pavement rip off. I really enjoy modest mouse but its a pavement redo.

Never Ending Math Equation ftw

It was even during the "Good News for People Who love band news" era...I kind of think they didn't realize what they were getting into, but it was still a great show.
Maybe only about 200-300 people there, maybe less. It felt like watching some shitty high school band play prom, but they were Modest Mouse

As recently as 3 years ago (at least I think it was 3 years ago) I went through their entire discography one album per week at a time. This was my first experience with most of their earlier albums. Here is how I rank them, although 1 and 2 tend to change based on my mood:
The Lonesome Crowded West
The Moon and Antarctica
Building Nothing Out of Something
This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About
Good News For People Who Love Bad News
We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Sad Sappy Sucker
This list only includes the full lengths. If you want to include EPs, then The Fruit That Ate Itself, and Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks belong somewhere between Good News and Sad Sappy Sucker.

Definitely one of my favorite bands.
Like lonesome crowded west the best, just picked up this re-issue on vinyl.
Has anyone heard about any prospect of them releasing a new album? It's been 7 years since dead before the ship even sank and the band seems to tour a lot. Seems like they would have some new material.

Really like Modest Mouse. "Moon and Antartica" is probably their best work. Even though it's not technically an album, I'm kind of a sucker for "Building Something Out of Nothing."
You all have probably checked it out already, but if not: check out Sun Kill Moon's album of Modest Mouse covers. Since someone mentioned one of my favorite MM songs, "Never Ending Math Equation" I'll link SKM's version:

Yeah, pretty ridiculous to just label them a Pavement re-do.

One of my all time favorite bands that receive heavy play off and on again.

I know Moon and Antarctica is widely seen as their best album, but I will always love This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About. Dramamine is about as great as song gets. Though I will defend their later work. I know a lot of older fans give them crap for getting popular but their "sell out" album had a run of songs of Bury Me with It, Dance Hall, and Bukowski. That stands up with any trip of songs on any of their albums.
And of course their live show is a punk rock show. They are a punk band, after all.
