I have some ties to the tennis program and recently heard about Les assisting in their recruiting. Basically the coaches found out that the recruit was also a football fan and asked Les if he would be interested in helping them recruit. Les not only agreed but told them he enjoyed helping out if his schedule allowed.

Long story short, the recruit met Miles and Miles sealed the deal with his trademark charm (the story of the actual visit was also funny bc the tennis coaches thought Les got the sports mixed up but turns out Les was just being Les. He actually had a little research done on the kid).

I know CSB. With some of the recent recruiting success of some of the minor sports, maybe Les has been helping more than we know!!

Miles on a tennis kid has to be so easy. Like frank Thomas in a little league park.

Heard Les showed his game on the vault and balance beam and sealed the deal with Mary Lou Retton's daughter.

American tennis kid probably but many are international. Still cool that he actively engages and is happy to do it.

Wonder if Nick has helped recruit other sports at BAMA?

You beat me to it Lester. The correct answer to that question is "Who gives a $hit!"

I heard this same story recently and the details make Les seem sly like a fox. Just to add to what you described, he opened the meeting with some seemingly goofy comments that made it appear he had no idea who the kid was or why he was there. It threw the tennis coaches off and they thought they had made a huge mistake bringing Les in to help. In reality, he had done a ton of research on the kid and ultimately brought his original comments back around for a relevant point applicable to the kid and his dad (who was also there.) Not only did Les do a great job but he spent much much longer than expected talking with the family and it paid off.

It pretty much confirmed for me that his media/public display are an act and that he's actually a very hard worker and extremely good at what he does.

That should teach a lesson to the tennis coaches on how recruiting works.

Yeah. Basically Les was watching the British Open when the kid and his dad walked into to his office. He went into talking about golf and the tennis guys thought that he had his sports mixed up. He knew what he was doing though and brought the convo around to tennis and then to his love of LSU.

Basically the tennis kid was ready to sign his LOI to attend LSU right there on Les' desk.

LSU is building a state of the art tennis center/facility that will be among the best in the nation. They have an understanding how the process works.

I meant from the perspective of knowing as much as you possibly can about the person you're recruiting.

The amount of detailed knowledge the coaches get on kids they're recruiting is insane. I think that plays into why they let kids in program have a longer leash than it looks like they should from the outside. And why they take it so personally when they have to kick a kid off the team.

They do their homework on the recruits (thats how they knew about his interest in FB). They just didn't do the homework on Les Miles.
