No way this is even remotely true.

For the yankees to do a deal like this would even be strange. But come on! Its the marlins. Theyd owe 1 guy half their entire teams salary for a decade.

ETA: He's a career .271 hitter that had a good year last year, but still only hit .288 with 37HR and 108RBI. He's a great player, dont get me wrong. But shite...

Could be, but the article just says at least 10 years.

He led the league in every power category. Dude is the best slugger in the league. He also plays great defense.

But no one deserves that money..

Boss

I don't see it since Trout took 144/6. Perhaps that is the cost to keep him in Florida. Can't imagine that would be his true market value.

I will say that at least Stanton will likely have 8-10 good years for that contract. Even more so when Trout was rumored to have a similar deal in the works.

Probably so.

It would certainly be better than the bitch tits deal.

Make either of them FAs tomorrow and they pull 250-300 over 10.

Honestly pretty reasonable given his age, what he's already accomplished and can still accomplish.

lol

The guy might never be the same after the bean job. I'd wait it out, till at least spring training, if he's healthy, then bend over and take the high hard one.

But to give him a long term deal, with zero clues on how he will come back from that beaning, horrible.

Who cares.

The only question is his health. If he stays healthy, he's in the MVP race every year for the foreseeable future. I would love to see the numbers he would put up playing 160 games in a better hitters park.

But Albert Pujols got a 10year guarenteed 240mil contract whenever he was hitting well over .300 every year hitting for even more power.

Stanton deserves a big contract, dont get me wrong, but 30mil a year for 10 years for a team with one of the lowest payrolls in the league. NO WAY!!

How old was Pujols vs how old is Stanton.
Everyone knew Pujols was on the decline and got paid based on what he did, Dtanton would get paid on what he could do

we don't know what he will or could do till spring training. he could never recover at the plate. that was a horrific beanjob, lets see how he comes back

Pujols was 30 when he got his huge deal.
Stanton just turned 25.

So yeah there is 5 year discrepancy.

But my main argument is how the marlins are going to pay a guy, who is arguably not a top 10 player in baseball, that type of money. This guy has only had 2 great seasons so far. Of course he can be great, but thats an extreme risk...
