Something like 39-18.

On the downside that's not the improvement I was looking for from the East meaning it might take 50 wins for the playoffs. On the upside it means we still might be higher than 20 in the draft even if we miss the playoffs and keep our pick.

For playoff purposes at the moment, the SW division has 16 of those wins (16-4 record overall , Pels 2-1). Taking care of business outside of the SW division in the WC is real important regardless of what happens from the East.

speaking of the east:

Holy smokes. East is 21 games under .500 vs. West already.

The top half of the East though is 13-12 against the West so far (Lol at Cleveland with their 2-4 record). It's the bottom half that has been real sad (5-27).

East is shite, again
one superior team (Toronto) and a mess of teams that can't string wins together

the pelicans are one of those types of teams so far as well. They are 7-5 and on the outside looking in right now. 50 wins means you win 3 of every 5. To do that they must get some separation from .500 as the road wins in the west will get harder and harder to come by. winning the next 3 in a row is just about imperative. They are all winnable and there for the taking

The Pelicans will lose the pick if they miss the playoffs.

I think we will be fine though. The Pelicans will probably need to be 6th in the West to keep the pick. We are looking good and missing a key player, Asik, on the court.

Pels would be 4th in the East based on record, 2nd (!!) based on point differential. And that's with the much more difficult schedule than anyone in the East. Toronto may be the best team in the NBA (at least until OKC gets healthy), but I really think the Pels, when healthy, are on par with Washington and Chicago.

Man look at those win streaks!

Also:
3 games separate #7 to #1
1.5 games separate #7 to #3

The Southwest is collectively:
63-23 (.733)

vs. the West:
36-16 (.692)

vs. the East:
27-7 (.794)

Pelicans will need to be at least 10 games above .500 to get in this season.

I would suck a cock to be in the East right about now.

fricking ridiculous

these conferences need to be changed....how the hell are places like Memphis and New Orleans considered "west?" At least switch those two teams with teams like Milwaukee or something.

8-8 would still have you hanging on by a thread in the East.

I have no doubt in my mind Pelicans would be a 4-5 seed in the East if they played the majority of those teams instead of the West.

Vancouver is about as far West as it gets.

Charlotte is about as far East, seems like Memphis is in the right place but the Pels aren't.

My point is that they are 8 deep, and after that it gets pretty bad.

Just poking my head in to mention Zach Lowe on his podcast said that the Grizzlies have 12 to 13 guys on the roster that should rightfully garner some playing time. Carry on.

last 10 games

Warriors: 10-0
Blazers: 9-1
Grizzlies: 8-2
Mavs: 8-2
Spurs: 8-2
Clippers: 8-2
Rockets: 7-3

i think its safe to say that those seven teams are in...the pels wont be jumping anyone on that list. so, its 8th seed or bust. .500 aint gonna do it, not that anyone thought that it would
