DARMSTADT, Germany – The European Space Agency's unmanned Rosetta probe successfully released a lander toward the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko on Wednesday, putting it on its final seven-hour journey to a historic rendezvous with the fast-moving lump of dust and ice.

As I understand the timeline, it's already touched down and now they're waiting for the signal, which will arrive about 20 minutes from now.

They said they expect to have confirmation of the landing 28 minutes after it actually lands. IIRC, they said it should be at about 8:03 PT (10:03 our time).

ETA:Also, if I heard correctly, they should have a picture pretty immediately after landing. I think the dude said it was supposed to send a picture back to Earth before starting whatever tests it's supposed to be doing. Can't wait to see that.

This whole thing is pretty incredible.

Nice.

What's sad is that people don't realize or appreciate how incredible this is. We just landed a spacecraft on a fricking asteroid/comet. That's amazing.
