One of my good friends wants to split season tickets with me. He's a big Chicago sports fan, has family in the area. A relative of his is offering up their season tickets to him for face value, and transferring him the owner rights, if he wants to. He wants to split tickets with me and try to make a profit. I know nothing of the Cubs or what tickets go for, but it appears we wouldn't make money till they made a nice playoff run. Cheapest pair of season tickets is 3500$/ticket, which means to Break Even we'd have to sell for all 81 home games at $45 per game which seems high. But a playoff run, or World Series run, and we can buy for face value and do whatever we want with them, which would make bank. Thoughts?

You'll be able to sell a World Series ticket for several tropical islands so yes

Fyi Cubs are poised to make a major run in the next few years. Not a bad time to do this. Depending on the seats you could make well above $45.

I live about 3 hours from Chicago. I could go for a weekend series if I ever wanted but that's not the primary purpose, especially since I'm not a cubs fan. But I could go watch my Reds

I would buy them for the experience and going to baseball games at Wrigley. Anything extra is jelly in future

And Library books are due, not baseball teams.

I don't see why you guys wouldnt do this - especially with the new manager and all the prospects in the world that will be coming up through the farm soon. Claim them now - may take a loss for the next couple of seasons but by year 3 you'll start profiting. You can expect a surge at the beginning of the years from people wanting to see the renovations.

what about me? I got my name drawn after ten years on the waiting list. I live in SW Arkansas. I might get to one series a year. Should I do it?

If I were in your position I would do it in a heartbeat. shite, I would even do this despite the fact that I live in Houston. You should be able to get at least face value for almost every game. Plus you have guaranteed tickets whenever you want to go and the possibility of killing it if they make it to the playoffs.

If you have the money and are willing to patrol Stubhub to keep ticket prices near the same as others - sure. Make some cash.

I am near the top of the waiting list and have been wondering the same thing myself. I'm not sure that I'd be able to make any games whatsoever in the near future, but the investment opportunity seems like a money maker if these prospects pan out.

I do know that the cubs don't do seat licensing and could pull your seats from you if you are selling almost all the time.
