When your Dad comes home from war ... tell the story on Veterans Day

I'll start. I'm in 7th grade and my Dad is in Vietnam for the third time. The only communication you could have was by letter. Shortly before Christmas, I think I'm having a great dream about my Dad talking. I wake up, and he's home. It was a short visit, but it was awesome. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Semper Fi Dad (90 years old, veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam).

Meh. My old man came home, we said "sup" and I went to school.

We would ride to the airport, pick him up, and bring him home with no fuss or media coverage like a good American family.

When pops came home from his 2nd tour in Nam he had a twinkle in his eye. That twinkle turned out to be me and my sisters. Thanks Pops. You da man.

My Dad joined the army during the end of Vietnam and spent all of his time in Germany. To hear him tell it, the Army then in Germany sounds like one big party.
Both my grandparents were too young for WW2, my paternal grandfather joined the air force in it's very first year and was discharged before Korea. There is a long list of service in my family, but they always seem to pick the perfect time to enlist.

Did he also lie about hopping on trains like a hobo?

When we were in Germany and my old man came back home I was across country so we had to catch a train to make it back in time.

I have hopped some trains and have had a number of locomotive cab rides.

It kinda was. He was right behind me. Ruskies never attacked a defenseless Germany. Mission complete.
