Are back spasms a symptom of meningitis?

My sister went to the campus hospital feeling sick yesterday. Today, her back started having spasms after she was finally able to get out of bed because she was feeling so bad. I asked her if she could touch her chin to her chest. She said it hurt really bad to do so. I called one my friends in town to take her to the ER. I'm worried.
For the praying OTers, I'd love some of those. It just doesn't feel right.

Usually classic typical symptoms are stiff neck, fever, vomiting and severe headaches.
Only time I've had patients have back pain with meningitis was from the spinal tap they get to diagnose it.

Relax. Inhale. Exhale.

It's very unlikely she has it, but better safe than sorry.
If she does, it's easily treated.

Good to know.

Back spasms? Not that I have heard of.
Pain when touching your chin to your chest is a physical exam finding in meningitis, but just that by itself doesn't prove its meningitis.

I'm now leaning towards just a bad flu.

She still going to the ER? Cause she will sit there for several hours waiting to be seen. For flu symptoms her best bet is to go to an urgent care.

Unlikely to be meningitis.
Prayers sent.

Well I won't post my opinions since I know something about meningitis and well let the morons who know nothing about medicine post

FWIW the quality of care in Urgent Cares can sometimes be not very good. If you're really sick you should go to an ER

I didn't realize you had to be a working professional in a field to understand something about it

Well that is true. Especially since most urgent cares only have PAs and NPs seeing patients. I just meant if it is basic flu type symptoms. Obviously if you are really sick...ER time.
Yall getting slammed with flu yet?

Not yet. And some of the MDs in the Urgent Cares are very good either. And what makes it worse is they the Patient they could have something bad and they get to the ER and they don't.

If you can help the OP, post up.
Otherwise, stop being a horse's arse.

Geez, I guess they know more than me since I'm a ER MD that works in the ER and teaches Emergency Medicine at LSU, arse clown.
