After the 2011 Game of the Century I thought Les Miles was a better coach than Saban (taking all into account). Then came the 2011 CG in 2012.

It has been hard to accept since then. I was at the 2012 game, so I reserved my cheering after we got a field goal this year, to take the lead with a minute left.

My heart was ripped out twice in three years, when we should have won both games. Had LSU won, we would have been praised as the team to beat Bama with the run game.

Let's be real. In the last five years, six with this one, no one has been better over all than Bama. As much as I hate saying this, Saban is the best College Coach in the country. He still gets outcoached on occasion and Miles has done that three out of their meetings. No one else is close since he has been at Bama.
Now we have lost four in row since the 'Game of the Century'.
Having said all that, these are the facts that will upset those who love Miles, like Miles or hate Miles. There is no other coach out there that is a better fit for LSU. He is not going to Michigan, Saban is better at coaching than Miles, yet for five of the meetings, Miles out coached Saban except for two of them with a minute to go.
I want to beat Bama more than anyone. Yet, every time we play, we gain stature.
How many on this rant thought LSU was going to win? So we play great and get tied in the last minute and lose in overtime to a coach that is considered the best in the country. P.S. Second overtime loss to Bama in Tiger Stadium with Saban as the opposing coach.
We are 20th in both polls with three loses. Take a look at that.
We have been a nationally televised prime time game on CBS for four straight years. That is a record between the same two teams. It will continue. LSU had countless recruits there and they were impressed. (Except for the F U Saban chant)
We will be back and we have a better chance to beat Saban with Miles as coach than any other.
Good times are ahead.
Always faithful and a tiger fan forever. The Sixties, the seventies, the eighties, the nineties and now during the best 15 years of LSU football in all its history.

you can base everything off how LSU plays vs bama, but the fact is, auburn, msu, ole miss, and even arkansas are improving. it's concerning to me, that if LSU doesn't improve on offense, they will consistently fall behind all of those schools, and become a 7-5 or 8-4 type team year in, and year out. I hate to say it, but bama isn't they only problem LSU is going to face in the near future.

So it sounds like you are saying this is as good as it gets since Saban is not coming back? I don't know if I totally agree that Miles is the best we can get. I think someone like Harbaugh would be better and beat Saban but I do agree that there aren't a lot of great coaches out there to replace Miles. I also agree Miles is a nice guy and good face for the program but can we at least stop giving him a raise every year if he isn't going to win the big games?

We had a nice offense in 2012 and a GREAT offense in 2013 but no defense. Like everything else the offensive performance will ebb and flow each year....just like those other schools you mentioned.

What "hasn't" changed much is the fact that Miles consistently out recruits those schools you mentioned. When those other schools consistenly hang with Bama like LSU does, then they will have caught up!

I'll be stunned if this year isn't brutal to our offensive recruiting.

Other than Mettenberger, Miles hasn't recruited or developed a good/great Qb. Mettenberger is the main reason the offense was so productive. IF Les is able to get production out of the Qb position, LSU will be fine, but the fact is, that hasn't happened very often, over the past 10 years.

Mett was already developed when he came here

You bring up a good point, except that who else have we not beaten consistently in the last five years? Bama seems to be the test each year.

Most players improve as they get experience

Going in, that was a game that LSU should win.

Mett had tools most players didn't. Last year was great because Mett worked his arse off the entire off season, he did most things on his own. OBJ and Landry were much improved being Juniors. Cam did play a role but people give him way too much credit for Mett, it was more on Mett and the receivers working their arse off in the off season. Not much more development.
Jennings is all Cam's and he has shown zero improvement. I think its time to actually give Harris the helm, we wont ever know if he is capable or ready, he will never be unless he gets experience.
