A major impediment to upward mobility for blacks is racist landlords.

The nonprofit organization sent two undercover "mystery shoppers," one black and one white, with matching incomes, careers and rental histories to Lakeview, East Carrollton, and Uptown near Audubon Park.

They attempted to view or apply for 50 apartments and 44 percent of the time the black tester was denied the opportunity to rent or was "treated unfairly," including failing to show for appointments, ignoring follow-up inquiries or failing to mention benefits offered to the white testers, according to the report.

Racism - it apparently does exist
quote:

"In one case, a white tester was told the application process was 'laid back' and required only that the tester be employed; this same housing provider told the African-American tester that he needed to have six months' employment, a landlord reference, and undergo a credit check," according to the report.

White privilege - it doesn't exist either!

I see no problem with this. If i rented out my house I am going to rent it to who I want for whatever reason I choose. You want to know why? Because its mine.

Should this really apply when it's a liberal starting the thread?

Racism does indeed exist in Louisiana.
New Orleans has had a succession of black mayors until recently when some white racist came along and took the job for himself.
Racist thug.

At least when it's out in the open one can ostracize bigots more easily than if they have to conceal their prejudices.

I sure as hell wouldn't eat at a restaurant that didn't serve people of color. I don't want my money going to some hick a-hole.

To help combat housing discrimination, the fair housing action center recommends that the city impose strict penalties on leasing agents and homeowners who engage in the practice, improve the quality of the city's housing stock, and ensure that lower-income residents in improving neighborhoods such as Bywater, St. Roch, Treme and Holy Cross are not forced out due to higher rents.

Dammit man, :blacksessed: not :blackobsessed:. You don't do that by just putting the words next to each other, you have to combine the damn things.

I don't know. I was under the impression you thought that because this board was generally conservative, it was black obsessed.

Of course, I think the whole "black obsessed" thing is silly because OF COURSE discussions of race are going to happen on a political board of any stripe. Hell, people who represent the President can't go 5 fricking minutes without implying or outright saying that those who fight against him do so based upon race. How the frick can you have that going on and NOT anticipate a lot of race talk?
