The Republican wave that swept over the states left Democrats at their weakest point in state legislatures since the 1920s.

Everything went in the direction of the GOP as Republicans seized new majorities in the West Virginia House, Nevada Assembly and Senate, New Hampshire House, Minnesota House and New York Senate, The West Virginia Senate is now tied.

What a complete and utter arse kicking.

For 2016 implications, The one state legislature that Republicans really needed to get control of was Kentucky. Democrats managed to hold on to the House of Reps there last night.

If repubs won the state house in Kentucky, they would have had no problem amending statues to allow Rand to run for Senator and President simultaneously. Democrats have no room to argue against that considering they let Biden run for Sentator and Vice President in 2008.

New Hampshire House

Republicans gained 57 seats in re-taking the NH House ! They also increased their majority in the NH Senate, as well as re-taking the majority on the 5-member Executive Council, while taking back one of the two Dem. held seats in the U.S. House., all despite Shaheen holding on to beat Brown.

So how many Democrat governors are there now? And how many houses and senates of the states in the states do Republicans own? Look it up folks. There's one party that OWNS states rights.

Given the party platforms were roughly reversed in 1920, this doesn't mean much. Only the last 50 years or so is relevant when talking current party models.

All this republican success in NH yet they couldn't beat an obamabot in Shaheen.

Shaheen really must be political royalty up there.

Dem Governor Hassan also won, as did the other Dem congresswoman. So it's not like Shaheen was the exception.

The only two statewide races went to the Dems., largely due to liberal "pockets" around the state that went heavy on Shaheen and Hassan. Relying on such concentrated areas of support results in taking a beating in apportioned races.

A good N.H. candidate ( home grown ) might have won the N.H. Senate.

Exit polls showed that 56 percent of the N.H. voters thought Brown hadn't lived in N.H. long enough to be their Senator.

That is a high number to overcome.

Good candidate, but N.H. voters are quirky.

But there were none. None. There is only one very popular Republican politician statewide, and that person has very high favorability ratings across the board. The problem is that a Senator can only occupy one Senate seat at a time.

It's actually a Democrat tradition. Johnson, Bentsen, Lieberman, and Biden all did it.
