What is your criteria to make a buck a wall hanger? I know it differs for everybody. Just curious what it is.

Ive killed 2 bucks in the 130 range and mounted them. Said the next one on the wall has to be a minimum of 140 but there are some really cool smaller bucks out there.

I have 2 in the 120-130 range that I killed when I was a teenager. They are both at my parents house.

I doubt I ever get another deer mounted. I wouldn't put a deer mount in my house, so there really is no point.

I might mount if I killed a monster drop tine buck, but I'd have to wait till I got a camp or something to hang it in.

How do you gauge that though?

Example, I have a 9, and 11 point mounted and both measure the same but are completely different style racks. One is 17" with mass and the other is 15" with tine length and a kicker. If I killed one that was 20" wide it would be my widest but he wouldnt measure out much better than the other two

Its a personal choice... shoulder mount whatever deer you like.

I am all about character on a deer doesn't have to be huge but it would need to have some age on it and have some character.

Unlike fish where I think bigger is better I don't look at Big Game Animals the same way.

i have only killed five bucks and everyone has been shoulder mounted. The first was a small 8 pt. 2nd was a 10 pt. Then i shot a big 8 pt got it mounted. And got my 9 point i killed with my bow mounted. The way I see it, if it is a trophy to you then mount it.

I mount deer when salesmen pay for it. I like skull mounts and those are easy and look good.

Ms. Salmon put dat foot down huh...

I mounted a smaller 8 point a few years back, simply because my dad and I killed 8 points together on opening day, so it has a special meaning. It depends on the deer... Rack qualities and uniqueness... Split brow tines, acorn stubs and stuff like that.

Have one at 148 5/8. I'm not opposed to mounting one smaller, just haven't killed the right buck.

If I consider it a trophy, I'll mount it. If I shot a 180" deer from a deer pen, I wouldn't mount it. If I shot a 125" 8pt with a bow on Pomme de Terre WMA, you bet your arse it would go on the wall. All depends on what I think makes a trophy. I hate going by inches, because a 140" 10pt is far less impressive than a 135" 8pt, etc...

I agree. Growing up hunting brown its down or 4pt or better type clubs, big bucks were scarce. After I get my two duck mounts I want and if I kill the buck I have on camera I may need to upgrade to a doublewide to fit them all

Why would you shoot it in the first place then?

I'll pretty much mount anything that walks that grosses below 140, and has a vagina.

oh wait, we're talking about something else.
