In 2013, the LSU Tigers went 9-3 (5-3). We then witnessed the well-documented early departures of our No.1 RB (Hill), No.1 WR (Landry), No.2 WR (Beckham), No.4 WR (Boone), No.5 WR (Wright), and starting OG (Turner) on offense, in addition to both starting DTs (Freak and Ego). We also witnessed the timely departure of the only SEC-caliber QB we have had this decade (since 2010).
Assuming we simply hold serve down the stretch, and lose to Alabama, while beating Arky & aTm, our record this year would be identical. However, if they're properly preparing themselves, Bama is already reading the last rites for their playoff dreams.
You play the games on your schedule and control what you can control. While all the speculating is fun, let's not forget the great strides this team has made already and how the players have grown as individuals and the team has rallied together.
Very few saw a 10-2 season at the start of the year, and whether we win the West crown or not, I'd just like to say how damn proud I am of our Tigers!
P.S.
Here's to Bama over MSST; Bama over Auburn; and Ole Miss over MSST

James Wright and Kadron Boone didn't leave early. They were seniors.

I don't see 10-2 or the west happening, but overall i like the points you made. Hell after Auburn i would have been happy with 6-6. Even if we go 1-2 and go 8-4 this season because this team didn't give up and the way they have played lately they have exceeded expectations and they are one of my favorite teams.
2005-2007 Pretty much met expectations
2008-2009 Fell below expectations
2010 Met
2011 Exceeded
2012-13 Generally met expectations
2014 had ZERO expectations after game 6. None and people wanted to mail it in and fire the staff. But they are above expectations already to me. They are one of my favorite LSU teams because of it in Les Miles era.......excluding 2011.

And here is the good news for me. I will still be happy if the Gumps lose to MSST and/or Auburn since I hate those inbred mf'ers.

My expectations for this season going in:
- more playing time for freshmen than usual
- continual improvement, especially D front 7
- RB's: none for LF7, Magee not take step back, Hilliard back to Frosh form or better
- Give either AU or Bama a run for their money
- beat OM and AR
most of those have been met with the Bama game coming and Harris not getting significant snaps (not calling for him to start, just 8-15 snaps a game).
Didn't think it would happen at first, but the most important one of the D front7 showing significant and continual improvement indeed seems to be on track. LSU's offense, any style, won't work if the D isn't well above average (exhibit: Miss St).
