How much would a politician have to pay you to get you to vote or not vote?

Votes are bought and sold. Mostly cheap. One small town Louisiana mayor once told me he would not pay for a vote unless the voter brought him an absentee ballot to fill out in their name---no joke.

Just curious if you could be bought and if so for how much?

Back when everybody was a "democrat" you could see which preachers and ride givers were paid by whom by looking at how the precincts fell. Precincts were small too. There would be almost identical precincts in terms of demographics break completely different in elections for local politicians.

Haven't we seen it done with a Popeye's box lunch?

That's what I recall Duke v. Edwards anyway.

Would $100 bucks get your vote?

Mine is not for sale. Too much blood has been spilled for me to ever give it up.

I'd do it for $100 for sure... I'm sure my vote wouldn't be swaying any election anyway

Your hypothetical is vague. Are you talking about voting for the politician offering the money? The way it's worded I am only given money to vote. I always vote. So, I'd take five bucks and vote as I normally do.

We know if you voted or not. You vote and you don't get paid.

I honestly think you could own most local elections and all statewide elections in Louisiana for roughly $50m a year. (if only it were legal)

That's with competition factored in.

Isn't ironic lobbyist can bribe elected members of the legislature and Congress but citizens can't sell their vote???

Well, that would be the only way you could reliably buy a vote. I certainly wouldn't rely on the honor system if I were buying votes.

The rate in the Thad Cochran campaign was $15 for the primary.
