Why no penalty on Davis on the INT?

Maybe this has been discussed, but watching the replay on NFL.com, Graham takes the hit, but the interception hadn't happened yet so it couldn't be considered a block on the return. Even if it would be considered inside the 5 yard buffer, he lead with his helmet and got him under the chin.

Seemed pretty blatant and obvious, but maybe I'm missing something.

We won, yes, but it's called "talking about football"...........nb4

I had no problem with the play, but under current NFL rules it should have been a penalty. The only thing I can think of is maybe Graham was within 5 yards and the ref saw it as a legal play?

I know one thing...after that play when JG got knocked the frick out he made sure to use his hands coming off the line past that point...

I know you're allowed to make contact within five yards, but didn't realize you could flat out cream a guy. But again, under the chin.

I can't remember if he was inside of 5 yards or not, but if he was, that is probably why there was no flag. It's still shocking to see anyone get hit hard without a flag lately, though.

It was definitely a cheap shot and I think the purpose was the make Graham disappear because "he's soft"

I really didn't expect him to come back in the game, and if he did, I was expecting a non-existent act. Little did I know...

I'm sure after last season, word has spread around the league to beat the crap out of Graham to take him out of his game.

Not that I agree with it, but under the new rules about targeting and defenseless players, it should have been imo...

eta: $20 says davis gets fined for the hit though

I heard that works if you do it to QBs too

Should have been called and fricking ref was standing right there. I was screaming at the tv.

I can remember a time when that was just a good play. I hate what the NFL has become but you are right that should have been a penalty (under current rules).

I'm sorry. As much as people loved watching players get murdered out there, I'm all for some sort of regulation against taking a guy's head off. Helmet under the chin should always be discouraged.

Correct. The helmet to helmet rule is not constrained by any other ruling, i.e. 5 yard cushion, uncatchable ball, etc.

Fair enough but some of the newer rules might as well prohibit anything but two hand touch football, especially when it comes to quarterbacks.

I think the general intent of these rules are good. It's just that the refs are allowed too much interpretation.

He knocked the shite out of Hill earlier in that drive with a similar hit when Brees was throwing a pass.
