Wondering what you guys think about the team, will Mickey be a all SEC caliber player, will the young backcourt play well eneough to finish high up in the sec, will any freshmen make a big impact, will they make the tournament?

9-9 sec record and nit berth.

Break even SEC. People always over expect things from basketball. The 1/4 that actually show up anyway.
Johnny Jones may be getting better players (....to be determined actually. We haven't won anything yet) but he still struggles with in-game adjustments and the defense is horrible. They rarely put together a compelte game. The offense for that matter too can't seem to hit anything on the perimeter.
Maybe all that changes this year. Doubtful though.

Mickey is already an SEC-caliber player. Also, our backcourt isn't really young, if you're referring to Hornsby and Gray, they just haven't played at LSU. Though Quarterman and Patterson are young. As far as Freshmen contributing, obviously Elbert will have to and I'm guessing Patterson will get some quality minutes. As far as newcomers, don't sleep on Bridgewater, he could be a really versatile frontcourt player for us this year.
I think we're a tournament team and will be disappointed with anything less. And I'm pretty easy to please.

I think we can finish 3rd or 4th in the sec and sneak a tourny bid this year. Mickey is going to have a huge year and Martin was playing some great basketball at the end of the year.

I love all these negative Nancy's on this board. Johnny Jones is a great recruiter and he has brought in a great mix of talent with more on the way. This will be a special year and on the back end. No one will want to play them. Look for a high scoring fast paced team. NCAA tournament or bust.

Damn dude can they play a game first? It's a brand new starting backcourt so your comments about making perimeter shots is asinine.
With that being said I expect a much improved backcourt offensively as well as defensively. We're gonna need TQ, Patterson, Epps, and Elbert to contribute. Mickey will be a stud again. If Martin takes that next step this team will have a good chance at making the tourney, if they can stay healthy.

Not really.
But anyway, let's see how he does with his own players and the type of personnel he actually likes to use before we throw in the towel. Let's not forget he hired a great bench coach as well.

It's really, really hard for me to contain my excitement for him. He's really trimmed down and as you said, he was getting in a groove at the end of the year.

I sat through every home game last year. I saw teams half as talented run them over. I enjoy the atmosphere. I contribute to the program.
You're just not going to give me a quarter and tell me it's bullion again.
I'm not frustrated with the program but at some point you compete. They have to make a stride this year as a program. One player isn't going to change this teams' fortune.

I struggle to see the overall point you're trying to make. I think everyone agrees this is the year where we need to really see progress. And we have the pieces in place to do just that.

The point I'm making is this year Jones has to do something to prove the program is making strides.
Recruiting has improved under Jones but this is year two of a full class. College basketball is all about quick development for the top talent. Roster turnover for the top teams is traditionally high due to EE. I just think this is basketball, not football. You don't have 3 years minimum in the program. The ones who stay that long generally aren't that great to begin with.

personnel-wise, LSU is loaded with talent, if they can't make the tourney, it's on the coaches imo

Agreed. But you projecting last year's problems on this year's team doesn't work.

I think the hiring of Eric Musselman to the coaching staff is the key. This team needed an "X and O" coach.

Sure it does if I believe it's coaching/approach.
