What I have been hearing is that the early voting numbers showed that Mary's target demographic, black voters, was not showing up in large enough numbers.

She won a close race for the U.S. Senate in 1996; she was re-elected by increasing margins in competitive races in 2002 and 2008. That is a dumb statement for her to make. It does not help her and just puts her campaign in more trouble than it was in before. She has always had a knack for winning close elections, but I think she is toast this time. She is vulnerable enough already without her alienating her constituency by making stupid statements about them.

Why didn't the reporter follow up with this question......you have been a US senator for 18 years, if in fact your statement is accurate, why have you not addressed these issues in the previous 18 years but during one of your toughest campaigns
