Not sure if he would have maintained the Success that he has had at LSU while at Ok. state. Can't think of any reason he would have stayed at OSU though. I do think he would have michigan top 10 year in and year out, with his offensive system, had he been hired over Rich Rod. I bet michigan knowing what they know now would have sent a blank check to him . I expected 8-4 or 9-3 if Les finishes 9-3 then this will be one of his best years coaching at LSU playing with so many young players

Almost certainly.

But it wasn't going to happen after this:

Could that possibly have been 7 years ago?

There's reason to believe that Michigan has never ordered the job to Miles. Some Michigan people, like Lloyd Carr and the current AD, didn't want him.

The anti-Miles faction seems to be in disfavor with the Michigan faithful right now, so this year the offer could be forthcoming.

I think Michigan was dead set on going away from that Lloyd Carr/Schembechler ties.

They wanted an outsider but it's come back to bite them.

I think Les has enough sense to stay at LSU as long s they will have him.

If LSU had not hired Les he wouldn't have stayed at OSU. Maybe Florida hires him instead of the Zooker, he may have flopped there, but since he is a great recruiter, I think he would've succeeded. He would not leave UF for UM so your answer is No.

so you're telling me this article is all bullshite?
quote:

Bertman, Jacobs and Weems had already interviewed Louisville coach Bobby Petrino in Memphis while his team was at the Liberty Bowl, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt in Orlando, and they had attempted to talk to then-NFL head coach Jack Del Rio of the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Del Rio pulled out and pulled over at the last minute while driving to Orlando when he learned his contract barred such interviews. And Weems and the late Richard Gill, a former president of the Tiger Athletic Foundation and president of the Shaw Group engineering company in Baton Rouge, interviewed LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher in Orlando. But Miles was LSU's last choice. "He gave the perfect answer to a question I asked," Weems said.

quote:

Weems and LSU's search committee were concerned with the Michigan factor. Miles had played offensive guard at Michigan under legendary coach Bo Schembechler and coached under him and under Schembechler's successor Gary Moeller. Miles even talked like Schembechler. Weems asked him if Michigan – aka Mama – called after he was at LSU.

quote:

"I'll never forget what he said," Weems said. "He had that twinkle in his eye as he often does and said, 'Why would anybody leave LSU to go to Michigan?' I knew we had our guy."

quote:

"Les knew what we all expected and what Nick's performance in five years had proven," Weems said. "And that was if a coach did what he needed to do in recruiting and coaching, LSU could be a monster. Les had seen what Nick had done and thought he could continue to win big, which he has. We just saw him as a great fit." Miles went 11-2 in each of his first two seasons, then won the national championship at 12-2 in the 2007 season. And along the way, he turned down interest from Michigan, canceling an interview that had been set up for the week after the Tigers' victory over Tennessee in the SEC Championship Game. Michigan later hired Rich Rodriguez. After two seasons of 8-5 and 9-4, Miles was back at 11-2 in 2010 and turned down an offer to coach Michigan following that season, according to LSU board member Stanley Jacobs and other sources. Michigan then hired Brady Hoke. Miles reached another national championship game as the 8-0 SEC champions in 2011 at 13-0, but lost to Alabama and Saban, who had left the Dolphins after two average seasons.

Probably not for the same reasons he is not there now. Michigan wanted to go in a different direction from their past. Miles would be at some other major school doing what he's doing at LSU...recruiting well, winning games a couple championships.

This guy would succeed anywhere.

I've seen him post jackass comments in numerous threads " " when the CLM/Michigan topic is discussed.

He must know something we don't. eta:

I believe he was offered the job the first time and declined.

I don't believe he was offered the job the second time.

I believe he will be offered the job again after this season. It's likely the last opportunity he gets to go there, but I think he stays here.

None of us know what actually happened. Clearly Michigan and Miles had some conversations, but the rest is all speculation.

I do think Jim Harbaugh will be the next Michigan coach.

He would have been at Michigan in 07 and 10 if they had made a serious run at him. The issues with Les and UM would still be there regardless of where he was/is the coach. They may get serious this time if Brandon is removed and Harbaugh says no. They are in need of a splash hire at this point and Miles would be it after Harbaugh when realistic candidates are considered. No chance he leaves unless Brandon is out and he gets a lot of assurances from UM that things are different in regards to the admins view of him and make him feel wanted. Love for the school and Bo is very strong pull along with wife being from UM. Kids home is here though so slim chance.

1) Kirk Herbstreit doesn't go on national television and say Miles to Michigan unless his information is rock solid. The job was his.

2) They hired Brady fricking Hoke and you think they wouldn't offer Miles?

ETA: why didn't he leave and why won't he leave when they offer again after this season?

1) kids still growing up here

2) LSU is a better job
