Holy frick. Dude had chops as a 13 yr. old. Just happened to catch this while flipping channels, and it was just starting. I was familiar with the title but knew nothing about the movie, but when I realized the kid was Bale, I gave it a watch. He was born to act. I've liked him in American Psycho, Yuma, etc., but he aggravated me as Batman and seems like a pompous arse. But damn. It was an engrossing, emotional rollercoaster of a role, and he nailed the frick out of it.
ETA - I guess I have to watch "Newsies" now.

You don't have to like him, you just have to recognize him as a really good actor.

I'm almost finished reading A P and it has only made me appreciate his acting in the movie that much more. He was outstanding for the part.

Hard to argue with that, but his performance made it worth watching. I'm guessing there's been a thread on that at one time or another - movies that weren't great but had extraordinary performances.
