This is my first post so be kind.lol I searched but could not find anything to help answer my question. Can Dwayne Thomas apply for a medical redshirt or did he play too much this season?

I think he played too much so he has two years left after this one.

quote:

A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted to athletes who appear in fewer than 30% of team competitions (none after the midpoint of the season) then suffers a season-ending injury. Players granted such a waiver are treated for the purposes of eligibility as though they did not compete in that season.

He would not qualify for an injury redshirt this year
He has 2 more years and frankly at the end of that I doubt he would want another year, it would be time to try and make the NFL

He played in more than 30% of our games, so he wouldn't qualify for a medical redshirt

As well as he was playing this year pre-injury, I hope it's a moot point. If he returns to form and continues improving an extra year of eligibility will be irrelevant because he 'll be entering the draft.

If he was injured after the 4th game, he would not be eligible for a medical hardship waiver. He would have two years of eligibility remaining. To be technical, he would have three years to play two, because he never actually took a redshirt year.

Thomas was granted a medical redshirt his freshman year. He has 2 years left unless they grant him a sixth year.

I forgot about that. You are correct. He has two years of eligibility unless he applies for and is granted a sixth year.
