One of the BCS computer guys came up with this. LSU is #12. LINK

He notes a couple differences. One is replacing Harris (Which doesn't exist anymore) with the AP. The other is using two non-BCS-compliant formulas. Massey doesn't do a BCS-compliant formula anymore, but Sagarin still does. By my calculations, if you use the Sagarin BCS formula, LSU drops a spot.

It will be interesting to compare this with the playoff committee.

For anyone who can't follow the link:
1 Mississippi St
2 Florida St
3 Alabama
4 Auburn
5 Oregon
6 Mississippi
7 Notre Dame
8 Georgia
9 Michigan St
10 Kansas St
11 TCU
12 LSU
13 Arizona St
14 Ohio St
15 Baylor
16 Nebraska
17 Arizona
18 Utah
19 Oklahoma
20 Clemson
21 West Virginia
22 East Carolina
23 Marshall
24 UCLA
25 Duke

I can't access that site at work, but if it is from Brad Edwards it matters because nobody knows more about the BCS than him. His predictions (formula) were almost always dead on. The reason that matters is because smart people will want to see how the new rankings compare to what the BCS would have said in order to form a well educated opinion on whether or not the new system is in fact better or just different.

The polls were the problem, so the bcs made us show our work. The computers didn't give us what we wanted them to give us, so meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If the playoff teams are the top four in the Massey composite, I have no problem. If the playoff teams are the top four conference winners in the Massey composite, I'll manage.

Wes Colley, who runs one of the formerly BCS computer systems, has it on his site.

I added the teams so you can see.

I trust this committee about as far as I can throw Jared Lorenzen.

Why couldn't they have kept the BCS formulas and stuff…and just picked the top 4 teams from that for the playoff? I never understood this….if the answer is obvious and I am a dumbass, please say so.

Having a playoff (even if it is only 4 teams) is still much better that just selecting the two "best teams". Even with the BCS there was always a subjective element to the formula. Here, I think the committee will try to rely primarily on objective data to select the 4 teams. However there will obviously still be a subjective element to the process. The problem with the new system is not necessarily the system itself, but the fact that there can only be 4 teams picked. A team like FSU gets the benefit of playing in a bad conference, while 4 teams in the SECW that may be better than FSU have to beat up and eliminate one another during the regular season. College football is an unequal system

After a few years of controversy, the playoffs will expand to 6-8 teams (maybe a few more). Hopefully the bowl system of meaningless exhibition games will start to disappear as well. The wheels are in motion, but eventually the "big" conference are going to break away from the NCAA and CFB as a whole will be better for it. Then we will no longer have to see 3-4 games against rent-a-win schools.

Haha, liked for the reference. I follow him on twitter. He was happy someone fatter than him through a touchdown pass on Saturday.
