I'm trying to understand the mentality/motivation of the positiger as opposed to those who are negatigers.

On the surface it might appear to be nothing more than positive personalities and negative personalities commenting on a given subject. While this may be true to a great degree, I think that there are some other assumptions that may hold true for each group:

Positigers:
Attended/graduated from LSU.
Grew up in a family that loved LSU.
Followed LSU football as a kid.
Loves and/or played the game of football.

Negatigers:
Did not attend LSU or attended some other University.
Have become a fan later in life.
Didn't grow up in an LSU family.
Are simply trolls (perhaps from other schools) who pretend to love LSU.
ETA: Have some narrow issue of contention (dislike Miles/particular player) and become negative about the whole program.

????

I feel like Saban and/or Miles should be mentioned in there somewhere.

I have attributes of both. And consider myself neither.

Seems fairly accurate.

You left off a lot of stuff.

-Whiny little bitches

-ULTIMATE bandwagon fans

-Fairly ignorant on the subject of "football" other than Madden and the like.

- Never happy with anything

So if you attended LSU you are positive nd if you didn't attend LSU you are negative? That makes no sense whatsoever . Some people can't control their emotions. Even negatigers love LSU . I think , we all want what's best for LSU, we just don't all agree what that is sometimes

Many folks don't accomplish much individually anymore, so they hope to align themselves with the "right side" on some interest they have for personal validation. That's why there's so much polarization these days. You see it in politics, sports, reality shows, diet, parenting, guns, race, sex, etc. Few are able to critically think through the issues for themselves and objectively develop an "analog" view. You can see it on every forum on this site...

If you were a fan through Archer-Hallman-DiNardo, then you might be a Positiger.

(why do I hear Jeff Foxworthy narrating this thread?)

ETA: In all fairness, at least Archer and DiNardo had a couple of good years.

And 3 generations of LSU graduates on my wife's and my side of the family.

With that, I refuse to be lumped in the category of positiger or negatiger. Have I become overexuberant like a positiger? Sure. Have I become over critical like a negatiger? Sure. That's called being a fan and sometime fans allow emotions to get the best of them. But for the most part I hope I offer constructive comments here on tRant and in my daily conversations with fellow LSU fans and SEC foes.

I:

Am from Baton Rouge and graduated from LSU
Have been a fan all my life (My family isn't big into sports which has nothing to do with my love of LSU sports)
Am not a troll

Miles does things that get under my skin sometimes, but it is all related to his coaching at times. I don't know him personally so I can't speak to that area of his life. Coaches come and go, but LSU remains. That said, he coached a great game this past weekend and the players worked their butts off.

You are getting a down vote because I hate the whole posi/nega tiger thing. We are all fans with different views. No use in crying about it because we won't all agree....EVER.

I am a posi tiger and did not get the chance to attend LSU. Most of my family attended MSU so there goes your theory. At least in my case. My son will probably attend LSU though especially after attending the game Saturday night.

I was all set to attend LSU but my father passed away.

I know for a fact that many Negatigers are forum/internet trolls and many aren't even LSU fans. But Other than that, I don't think there's any set of factors. Some of the bigger Negas I know fit most or all of the Posi categories.

If I was going to pick, I'd think lack of football knowledge would be the biggest trait of Negas.

Positigers:
Don't/Aren't

I am a positive personality with all the attributes of a positiger.

Though I find myself at severe odds with Miles at times, I respect the fact that he is the head coach and does have some considerable qualities as a person and a coach. I would never discount the man in a personal way as some do. Another thing that I would never do is denigrate a player unless he has a proven character issue. There is far too much denigration of players on this board.

What I feel my theory postulates in the simplest terms is that positigers generally have a strong history and commitment to LSU while negatigers only pretend to.

Stay in the woods.

Has nothing to do with any of the factors listed. Has more to do with outlook on life, perfectionism or lack thereof, and/or desire to be the best we can be.

He was a fan since before he could yell Tigahs!

My father's father only missed one home game between the end of WW II and when his wife (my grandmother) died in the early 90's.

He isn't pretending, he isn't from another school - but he can be a troll.
