Some company claims they now represent the guy who posted the guy who posted the video of his upset girlfriend on Facebook and everyone is now infringing on his copyright.

Um, there was no notice of copyright on anything. Seems like they are trying to spam/scam. Legit?

Some people will do anything to make a buck...even if it's copyrighting a cat video or something.

Doesn't have to contain a notice to still enjoy copyright protection.

I put up the TS couple falling down video and had companies email me trying to buy the rights, so I believe it. It's companies that sell it to tosh, etc

Probably a network partner on Youtube. Companies like that always try to jump on a video on the verge of going viral. Too bad for them this one will die out in a day or two and has limited reach since not many people care about College Football vs other viral videos that have more universal reach. The guy might make a thousand or two off of but that will be about it.

Any original content you create and upload you own the copyright to. Videos, graphics, games, etc

They don't just give Tosh rights to replay it. They make plenty off of Youtube and by partnering it there. They get $2 to $5 per 1000 views on Youtube videos depending on what the average ad is that plays over it. Some ads pay more so the average can vary.

I believe that those rights are forfeit when you post to YouTube. Re: TOS, etc

LOL No. Youtube is HUGE on protecting copyrights actually. If you can prove you own the rights to anything, you can ask Youtube to do a DMCA take down. They have an option to request it and Youtube also employs algorithms to search for Copyrighted material to make sure that the correct people get paid for their work being reused.

It was originally posted on FB. Liveleak probably saved it and reuploaded to its site. So did others. I suspect what happened is this bunch trolls liveleak, sees it, and tries to grab it.

As I said, there is no notice of copyright anywhere.

There doesn't have to be one.

He can request any site takes it down as long as he can prove he is the original creator. Read up on DMCA notices. Same with pics, artwork, writing, etc.
