967 today

Amnesty International denounced “another bloody stain” on Iran’s human rights record on Saturday when a 26-year-old woman was executed for allegedly killing a man who she said was intent on rape.

Reyhaneh Jabbari was hanged at dawn in Rajaie Shahr prison outside Tehran after spending seven years behind bars. She was the 967th person to be executed since Hassan Rouhani took office as Iran’s president on 4 Aug 2013, according to the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre.

The state media announced that Miss Jabbari had been put to death after the family of the man she was accused of killing declined to grant a reprieve. Her mother, Shole Pakravan, confirmed the execution and said she was going to a cemetery to identify her daughter’s corpse.

Iran executes woman who killed her rapist in self defense

Sickening. I may believe in the death penalty as an appropriate punishment for murder but they pervert the true significance of what the death penalty is supposed to be used for and that's to act as the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime which is premeditated evil act of murder in cold blood. Iran does not value life at all.

In the case you are referencing, it really comes down to the fact that Muslims do not view rape as a serious crime. This is due to the fact that women are viewed second class citizens and thus it's not a big deal to commit a crime against them. Women in Arab countries are treated just a hair better than blacks in the south in the 50s.

The coming war between Muslims and feminists in the US will be entertaining to say the least.

Find it sad when the resident apologists on here jump into War on Women threads regarding Republicans yet shy away from mentioning the real War on Women is Islam and even MODERATE Islam.

The religion as a whole needs to grow up about 400 years, asap. Their views on women and homosexuality simply won't cut it in the western world. Republicans just think they've had it bad on those issues. Wait until this finally comes to a head.

Agreed. Women are only seen as property of men, breeding machines and a social construct there. Nothing more.

It really is amazing how the left has defended the most socially conservative demographic on Earth in the most arse backwards region on Earth.

While the execution of this woman was fricking horrible...we are hardly the country to be bitching about someone else's execution policies.

Didn't know Mormon women risked an honor killing if they have the misfortune of being raped.
If you are referring to that Warren Jeffs sect, that was a cult not a representation of the religion. It would be like saying David Koresh represented protestants.

No. Being a woman in Utah is better than being a woman in Iran.

Regardless, where are the sovereign nations with a Mormon majority and theocracy?

Sure, Mormon women in America are being forced to marry people they don't want to, are raped repeatedly with no rescue and are brutalized daily.

You owe Mormons an apology for comparing them to the scourge of the earth.

This. One of my besties is LDS. She has a master's degree and makes more than her husband. She knows how to change her own brake pads. She gives occasional sermons/homilies at her church (she even called me once for feedback when her turn was coming up).

If I had to trade places with either her or a woman in Iran, it would be a very easy decision.

I'm against the death penalty and I still think this post was idiotic.

We execute people ONLY for murder, and even then it's only for special circumstances. The most high profile executions over the past year included intentionally starving a baby to death, raping and murdering a toddler, and burying a victim alive. There's a world of difference between executing a murderer for a particularly barbaric killing and executing a woman for saying no to a rapist. Too bad you can't make the distinction.
