I don't know about that, but I would agree that in that band, the whole was greater than the sum of it's parts. I think they all pushed each other to be better than they had ever been or ever would be again.

One of my favorite bass players--and vocalists too, at least his stuff with Cream. He said one of his goals with Cream was to push the bass out from behind the guitar, and he did this in a spectacular way that actually enhanced the sounds of the other musicians. A good dude gone.
