Is a 90 mile (one way) commute for a job too far?

I'm weighing a job offer that will increase my salary by 30%, but the wife loves her job and she doesn't want to quit and move. Moving somewhere in the middle isn't feasible either b/c the school districts are piss poor for the kids. I'm trying to talk my way into being able to handle the commute, but the rational part of my brain is saying that the commute is too damn long.

Maybe stay at a motel 2 nights a week if I were to commute that distance

I commuted 75 miles for 5 months. Morning was ok, it game me time to wake up and listen to podcasts and what not but the evenings sucked. Drive felt like forever

It isn't bad if you like the isolation and ability to wind down

Is it a straight shot with little traffic? If so it sounds doable but it would get old really quickly. If you're driving into a metro with traffic then hell no

I did it but it was a little less than that and BR traffic was at least 1 hour only 17 miles so it was a wash so u just have to decide what your time is worth . My sceen is cracked so I can't write this with the punctuation

Is 90 miles one way to work or a round trip for the day?

I commute 30 miles in the suburbs of Chicago and it takes almost a full hour each way. It's good in the mornings to wake up and be ready when I get to the office. It sucks leaving though. Takes forever to get home. Right now I drive into the rising Sun and into the sunset. Damn near going blind.

You gonna spend 35-45 % of new income on gas & vehicle cost, not counting the time with family you will miss. I wouldn't do it

If it's a straight shot.... like nola to BR I would do it again. I did it for 2 years.

If it was interrupted like nola to Lafayette or lake Charles to baton rouge.... he'll no. Adding a city mid way would kill that for me

That is a long way to travel with no end date in sight. I did an internship from Jan-Aug and traveled from Walker to Luling. I had someone to carpool with and it was still a grind.

I did almost 80 one way for a year. It sucks. Felt like a different person when I moved closer.

I would do it with the understanding that eventually I would move closer, but quality of life is greatly altered with that commute.
