I'm wanting to get my first 1911 and I've had my eye on the Colt Series 70 Govt model in stainless steel for some time now. Buds has them for $1015.
Any words of caution/red flags regarding this model?
TIA!

I like the 70 series but prefer the 80 because of personal preference,
but the price seems fair, helluva first 1911, OP

I'm not sure I could even explain the difference between 70 and 80 but I've read good things about the 70. I get to pick my 5 yr wedding anniversary gift and thought I'd get a 1911. I have a great wife!
Thanks for your help.

Series 80 has a safety plunger in the action that the 70 does not have. Most 1911 purists prefer the 70 b/c it is possible to get a better trigger (or it has a better trigger out the box).
Colt is one of the few manufacturers that uses very, very few MIM parts. Most of the metal comes from forgings.
You have good taste in guns sir. Post often.

I'd take a 70 series over an 80. There's also nothing wrong with MIM parts either. Anyone who's actually studied the process knows that they are every bit as strong or stronger than conventionally forged parts. H&K has used MIM for a long time yet I don't think many here even know that.

Thanks for the advice. I can now buy with confidence thanks to the OB.

I'm late but you summed it up well.
Kato, I own two 80s and a 70. You won't be disappointed with either of them.

Thanks! Great to know they're well thought of.

My vote is series 70. It's simpler and has fewer parts. Simpler is always better IMO.

Either will do perfect and you won't be disappointed.
The Colt is amazing but consider the Dan Wesson heritage

Update:
Just purchased the 70 in Stainless from Buds for $1015.
Gotta wait a little longer since I couldn't turn down the 3% cash discount (e-check).
Getting it shipped to Puglias (my preferred FFL) and will hopefully post pics when it arrives (if I can learn how to post pics ; I know, member since '06 ).
Thanks again for all the replies/advice.

I have the same exact gun but in the Commander model with the 4 inch barrel. It is a sweet shooting gun! It is my favorite pistol in my safe by far.
