Movie has a lot of hate and a lot of apologists. Where does this board stand. All versions welcome.

I'm doing my semi-decade entire series rewatch and I'm watching a version I've never seen before.

I actually liked Resurrection a lot better, so that says something about where I stand on this one.

I kinda agree, and I thought Resurrection was pretty much crap. Not a fan of 3.

It was crap, especially compared to Alien and Aliens. I almost didn't watch Resurrection because of how much I hated Alien 3, and although Resurrection wasn't much better, it was still better IMO. Lesser of two evils I guess.

It has been a long time since I've seen Alien 3, so keep that in mind. I have no desire to ever see it again though.

Much better movie than some give it credit for. Problem is that it's 180 degrees from Aliens 2, which was pretty much just an action feature.

I hated Alien3 and I have still never been so let down in my lift in a movie (including Phantom Menace). After Aliens maybe my expectations where unrealistic but I have watched it twice since the first time and I still can't shake the hate.

Describing Resurrection as crap is an insult to crap. At the 1:15 mark of the opening sequence, I should have turned if off and never watched .

You know what I just realized because of this thread?

David fricking Fincher directed this piece of shite - in his directorial debut.

Forever known to me now as Fincher's Mulligan.

There were 2 directors. I forget the whole story but I think fincher got the short end of the stick.

Alien is a horror-scifi masterpiece, perhaps the finest example of the genre. Aliens is an action flick, in the good Cameron mold, but set in the Alien universe - it is a wonderful film in it's own right (not as good as Cameron's first 2 Terminator films, but very, very good).

However, I would question the judgment of anyone suggesting the steaming turd of Alien 3 is better than Aliens. I'm not sure under what criteria that argument could even be mounted, much less succeed.

Like a few other films - the cast tried to save it - I'll give them that. And, upon further review, Fincher disowned the film because of studio interference. Good for him.

You sir are an idiot.
I can accept an Alien vs Aliens debate (I personally like Aliens more) but both are titans of the scifi genre. Aliens3 is horrible has very few redeeming qualities.

Alien and Aliens are two of the greatest movies ever. 3 is not horrible IMHO and has some very interesting concepts but it ultimately is disjointed and falls apart. At times, it seems almost comedic te way the dumb prisoners act and then you have good actors dispersed and your left just thinking wtf. The cinematography isn't even either which is also extremely unprofessional. I still like it a bit bit I don't know why.

Alien 3 is a very solid movie but it gets trashed because it followed Alien and Aliens. But make no mistake about it, 3 is a good movie.

I wasn't a fan of Resurrection at all. It's the only Alien movie I didn't care for.

Give me the first three and I'm good.

Fincher I believe didn't like what the studio did to the film.

He has disowned the movie completely because it was nowhere near what he wanted.

I still like it though. I really don't understand the hate. Aliens was nothing like alien yet people love it just the same. It was just an action movie with aliens.

Alien 3 brought it back to the roots of just one alien, although it didn't match the suspense of the first, it was a nice homage. You also get the ruthlessness of weyland first hand. All they care about is the alien for their studies.

I could go on and on, this movie was a big favorite of mine as a child and still is.
