John Goodman has a better body of work than Kevin Bacon, but I really like Kevin Bacon too. He was great in Mystic River, Footloose, A Few Good Men, and The River Wild.

Goodman wins with Walter form Lebowski for me.

Bacon in a close second with Tremors which you left off the OP.

Stir of Echoes might be my favorite Bacon. Not the best movie he was in, but I thought he (& others) were cheesy in JFK.

Goodman's Coen roles alone are enough to put him over the top for me.

It was seriously the greatest comic relief I've ever seen in a drama. And it was a completely believable character. He nailed it.

I like Goodman's body of work better, but they are both fine actors. I think Goodman was deserved an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Walter Sobchak.

This. All of this.

I don't know if he will ever be able to top Brad Pitt's abs in Fight Club -vs- Brad Pitt's abs in Troy

Bacon's role in The Woodsman is one of the most under the radar great performances ever. Hauntingly depressing movie, one you won't forget. Plus, he was in Diner, a top ten all timer for me.

If it weren't for the Coen Brothers, Goodman would not be in this discussion. I'll go with Bacon.

But that's not how these things work. They do count. And it's Goodman.

Not disputing it. Coens are by far my favorite film makers, but I've seen Goodman's act before in his various roles with them. Plus Bacon has this.
