Good for Joe and the Cubs if it could happen. Would be UNREAL if he took over and won a World Series with Chicago! They both deserve it.

Won't happen

He's going to the Cubs most likely

They are so stacked and will break their curse if he does. They are scary good

For me, when the Cubs hired Renteria, I didn't feel like he was THE guy to get them to the promised land. It would really suck for him, but this is a no-brainer.

My initial reaction is I think the cubs will. Got money, got young players, getting new player facilities, can't see there being anything but respect between FO and manager. Just (way too early) feeling bad for retneria. he didn't do anything to deserve being ousted but you can't pass up this opportunity.

It moved.

I can't even imagine how fantastic it would be if he went to my beloved Cardinals, but I don't see it happening.

Might as well turn the world upside down and let him win with the Cubs who, as a Cards fan, I do not hate.

I dunno...who's to say RR doesn't stay with the Cubs? I know that's far fetched, but it's not out of the question, and the Cubs have the money

That'd be ideal. I'd love to see it happen.

But then you're telling Maddon, you've got to keep chris bosio (because c'mon, that's a must) and make RR your bench coach. Unless we could get really creative and RR was ok with it and find an off the field spot for him.

Who cares about renteria

It's a business and Maddon would obviously best for the business. Renteria was a place holder for a guy like Maddon anyway. He's not the answer

Yeah it's like you said a shame this didn't all transpire a year ago. Ricky seems like a nice guy and the team did improve the second half of the year, but if Maddon wants to manage again next year you couldn't pass up that opportunity.

Perfect scenario.

C'mon Bill Dewitt, pull the trigger.

Madden is a huge Cardinals fan, and let him finish his career managing his fav team.

frick Matheny, he can go back to real estate.

From ken rosenthal LINK
quote:

Just talked to Joe Maddon.

He told me that after Andrew Friedman resigned, he had a two-week window to decide whether to exercise opt-out. He was unaware of specifics until Rays' Matt Silverman informed him.

I asked him specifically about Cubs. He said, "I don't know. I have to talk to people. I have interest everywhere right now. I've got to hear what everyone has to say."

Asked him if he would sit out a year. He said, "I'd love to manage. If the right opportunity does not present itself, I would want to work. But I would hope it would be a managing position. If not, there are other things I can do that would make me an even better manager when I get the opportunity again."

Asked if it was uncomfortable for him to have his agent, Alan Nero, contacting teams with managers already under contract. He said, "For me, it's not my responsibility to think for other organizations. I'm controlling what I can. I had this two-week window of opportunity. It's about myself, my family, my charities. At the end of the day, I would never ask or tell an organization what to do. That's not my business."

From Cubs. Well, here is our young, cost controlled, extremely talented roster. Also, we've got money, and we're only going to get more money. Pitching...don't worry, that's what some of the money is for. Oh yea, want to be a superhero...win here. Kthanksbye See you for the first game in April.

I think it's definitely the best opportunity that's realistic right now, unless he wants to sit out a year.

which he's already said he doesn't.

I'm amazed at how quickly and how big of a story this became.

Also, not that it means anything, but unlike the dodgers and mets, the cubs haven't come out and made a comment like "RR is our guy" or said anything.
