Texas should have hired Bogar based on what he did at the end of the season.

So now the Rays should hire him and show the whole world what Rangers fans know, that being how stupid Jon the Moron Daniels is as a GM.

The Rays will promote from within. Dave Martinez IMO

Also your insane and irrational hatred for Jon Daniels can humorous at times and extremely annoying at others.

Please tell my that opportunity is in Atlanta

This makes me love the Friedman hire even more. Joes opt out clause only came in if Friedman left the organization. He obviously thinks that highly of him if he opts out the first chance he gets

I could definitely see the mets going after him also

You should read the book on the Rays front office. Friedman and maddon worked very closely together on a number of things

Poor Rays. The offseason hasn't even officially started and they're already having a worse one than the Phillies

@simmonssteve: An unconfirmed rumour at exec levels of baseball has Joe Maddon going to the Cubs.

The owner and the president, Stu Sternberg, are the two that originally hired Friedman and Maddon and started to build the whole thing and completely rebrand the franchise. They might be bad for a few years but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they built it right back up again.

There's a pretty decent chance that'll take some time. If you can't just go out and buy someone, you need to make a 100% money hire

We might as well bring back the old name and uniforms at this point.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish him the best. Thanks for everything he has meant to this team and community, but I feel sick over this.

Makes me wonder if Rays will be moving soon. Perhaps Sternberg has had his fill with the area and lack of fan support.

This one is sticky for me. Obviously want maddon as a cubs fan. But Ricky didn't do anything wrong. Sure there were some hiccups, and we did carry an extra pitcher as basically training wheels for him for what felt like half the season. But ultimately he didn't do anything that really warrants not being brought back. With that said. Joe Maddon though.

Rosenthals tweet:

Within industry, #Cubs viewed as a leading contender for Maddon. Renteria signed through 2016. Team could simply pay off rest of his deal.

I agree on Renteria and he seems like a very likeable guy...but you can't pass up Maddon.

I'm going to try and not get too excited.

First Gardenhire, now Maddon...2 of the better coaches in the league. Should be interesting.

He can probably go to 28-29 other teams, and get a job right then and there.

I like Ricky and all, but why have the student when you can have the teacher?

yea..i'm just bemoaning that this couldn't have happened last year.

I mean if look at the cubs as the season progressed, they got a lot better and looked really good for stretches. Some of that's gotta be a feather in the cap for Ricky...but...Joe Maddon.
