One second...

Phone sucks, anyway...

I've been itching for a 10mm in the 1911 platform. I love my glock 20 and will never sell the beast, but I'm madly in love with the round and want to expand my arsenal. I'm leaning towards the kimber eclipse custom, but am open to exploring other options. I know colt and para make one in the same price range as does dan wesson and EAA. Could someone with experience in any of these models drop some knowledge on how awesome they are. Tia.

Problem with the Eclipse is the finish rubs off easily. Dan Wesson Razorback is what I would go with. Out if those you listed, the Dan Wesson looks nicer and the fit and finish is unbeatable for an under $1500 1911. 10mm is the best readily available semi-auto cartridge out there imo. I say readily available because I am partial to 9X25 Dillon (which is very difficul to find).

Ever shot the kimber KR? I know the delta is popular on this board. I just love my kimber .45

What exactly is the difference with caliber compared to lets say a .45

kimber eclipse custom,

I was going to get one of those. I heard, read and witnessed that the finish on the slide is horrible and scratches very very easy.

Everything.

A .45 is usually a heavier bullet. 230 grains is the norm there where 180 grains is the norm on 10mm. You can get lighter or heavier loads for either but those are the most common. Standard speed for a .45 is 850-875 fps, 10mm can approach 12-1300 fps. This equals a lot more energy when it hits the target, some reaching over 700 ft lbs of energy.

10mm is a flat shooting, fast, powerful, and accurate round. .45 is a big and slow round. 10mm is suited for handgun hunting where you may need to take an accurate shot out to 50 yards and get good penetration. .45 is suited for self defense in a close quarters situation. Its going to blow a huge hole in a torso and break up without causing collateral damage, a 10mm round close up is going to rip right through a guy and hit whatever is behind him.

As far as energy goes it's the hardest hitting semi auto pistol round out there, the 10mm that is.

Interesting. They make an all black 10mm too, the TLE. Maybe I should look into that one. The eclipse custom looks a lot like my sig Equinox, that's why I was drawn to it.

No, it's a more powerful .40.

It's the same bullet (projectile) as a .40 s&w, it's just in a longer case and loaded to a higher pressure so the bullet flies faster.

This is why I love the 9x25 Dillon, 2100 fps with an 90 grain bullet gets close to 880 ft lbs. It is a 9mm bullet in a 10mm case. Recoil is a snappy but VERY manageable.
