Our place in avoyelles has a cotton gin from the early 1900s on it and there are the pilings in the lake from a a bridge that was installed in the late 1800s Still a few sinker cypress logs on the bottom from an old sawmill that was on the lake at the turn of that century. The old timers around claim that Al Capone and some of his group used it as a hideout for a few weeks one time when things were hot in both Chicago and his normal get away in FL. Saw a show about him on history channel several years ago and they mentioned that there were rumors of him hiding out in central LA on at least one occasion but that they could not confirm those.
Also has an old tram line that passes through it. When senator Hawkins used to own the place years and years ago, they had fresh bread and other groceries delivered to them daily.

Old railroad line

My MIL's house was a major spot between St.Fran and Woodville and a key staging area during the 1870s race war / LaMiss border war.

My lease was the main highway/entrance for the settlers of lower Cameron Parish as they came up the Mermentau and settled in Little Chenier, Grand Chenier, Creole, and Cameron. It also was the main shipping area for citrus fruit and perishable goods after the settlers started farming.

Used to be. Got cross-ways with them and got out. Or got kicked off. Not an easy family to deal with.
