Judge Reggie Walton of the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia threw out almost all counts brought against the tax-collecting agency in two cases, ruling that both were essentially moot now that the IRS granted the groups their tax-exempt status that had been held up for years.

Here's the kicker...

quote:

The judge, appointed by Republican President George W. Bush, also said the groups couldn’t receive monetary relief from individual IRS officials, such as ex-IRS official Lois Lerner, because of the chilling effect it would have on tax administration.

We're done folks...someone turn out the lights on the way out, please.

Only hope is a republican administration jumping on it before the statute of limitations runs out on the crimes.

It's NOT fricking moot. These groups were prevented from participating in the 2012 election to the same extent as their liberal opponents.

That should be worthy of a removal from the chair.

It's probably difficult to claim to be a non-political non-profit then sue because you weren't able to run adds in the 2012 election.

Actually, they are required to be non-PARTISAN, not non-POLITICAL.

Be careful what you wish for. The tables could turn very easily.

Federal employee protecting the feds pocketbook by denying a lawsuit that has merit, because it might open up Pandora's box on the federal treasury.

Seems this judge has a conflict of interest here.

Don't recall that they were trying to run Ads. If I remember correctly True the Vote was an educational group, that sought to educate people to be Poll Watchers, and that sort of thing. Ballot integrity. Which explains why the IRS harassed them.

So in other words, if I go and vandalize, say a Federal Judge's house, night after night, for weeks, and then I finally stop, I can't be prosecuted because I've stopped, right?

No you can.

However, apparently, if a government agency (and its employees) repeatedly violates your constitutional rights, but stops, then it's all good.

I'll remember that the next time some federal prisoner gets his arse kicked by a BOP guard and is looking for a 1983 payday.

If this judge was some bi-partisanship appointee, then that should teach the GOP a lesson.

But it probably won't.

It is curious...

Seems like the GOP is the only party that appoints federal judges that end up fricking them (frick you John Roberts). You never hear about a DEM appointee that ends up being a surprise conservative.

What they did to these people(one had 15 Audits)is a crime. The crazy thing is Louis Lerner was in talks with the Justice Dept for criminal prosecution, even after all the bogus audits. I wonder if there would be injury after that? And not just the silencing of these groups during the election....This is by far the most corrupt Administration I've ever seen....

This is like putting the money back in the cash register after someone got caught robbing the convenience store and the judge letting them go.
